I created a template with Artisteer 2 for Joomla 1.5. Now I want to display my articles on one page in 2 columns. I cannot find a setting for this in Artisteer, but I can find the settings in Joomla. But when I set in Joomla that I want to display the articles in 2 columns, they still appear under each other. Is this because I cannot set this in the Artisteer template? So is this not possible with an Artisteer template? Or is it possible and do I have to change some settings in Joomla?

Artisteer have no relation to that. You can arrange articles on your front page as following:

From your Joomla Admin go to-> menu manager-> main menu-> Home-> on the right open "Parameters (Basic)" you can tweak how many articles are Leading (100% width), Intro (Partial Width based on Number of Columns), Number of Columns, and Links (shows linked title at bottom of page

-> on the right open "Parameters (Advanced)" and tweak the Primary Order and Multi Column Order to achieve the desired effect.

Hi!
Garry above here is right in his suggestion but I think you still misunderstands whats happening.
If you set a high number of Intros to be shown and you have chosen the columns to sort vertically, there might not yet be enough atricles there to fill the columns. That is why onle the left column is filled first and the right is still empty.
The solution is to decrease the number of articles or sort the columns order to horisontal. With the horisontal sorting are the columns filled left - right - left - right until the number of articles avaliable are shown.
