Dark background colour appears as vertical bars between columns of front page articles published on a lighter background.

Hi looking for some help here.

I have designed a very clean monochrome Joomla template with the articles printing on a light grey background and the whole thing is set off against a near black site background.

The template is set up as a single column, as I am using a horizontal based menu at the top of the page, no login section or poll etc. And if I have an article set to fill the width of the page it all looks good.

However I want to have 3 columns on the front page with "read mores" and here I am left with ugly black lines breaking up the light background between the columns. I have tried all possible padding and margin settings to remove them but without luck.

Any ideas? I have a feeling this might need coding and as I am a total virgin here, please be gentle!
