Three columns on home page

I found using Artisteer to build my Wordpress template easy. I launched it today. this is the temp URL because the subdomain may not have propogated everywhere yet:
http://glendale.directrouter.com/~scrapall/blog/

I want my website to have a similar look. This is my first experience with Joomla. And really that is what I'm needing help with.

I want to essentially have three columns on the home page with intro texts for my three main services.

Here is my site so far (it is a mess and not at all how I want it!)
http://www.scrapallier.com

I found this module:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/news-display/content-embed/9290

I thought it would create my three columns. I installed it three times but it didn't do at all what I thought.

I posted before and someone said create an HTML page w/ Artisteer basically w/ a three column table. But, when I choose HTML page it gives me an entire site template to start with.

Has anyone seen or posted step by step help for something like this?

I'd love a module that gives me the option to put a background graphic either across all three columns or in each column and then text on top.

Any ideas or hints?

Thanks so much.

This is actually a normal Joomla question and not so much an Artisteer.
In the home page menu item on the right site (parameter section), you can set the amount of colums you want on your homepage. Every article that you set on the homepage will fill a column.
Also menu items that display articles in blog style, have this parameter (set the first article for full widht to 0)
Hope it helps.

Joroen,
I only have a Top Menu, Main Menu and User menue not a home page menu. Is this a menu I set up or are you referring to something under a dropdown other than the menu drop down?

Can I have three equal columns with your solution or does it have to have the Artisteer options where one is wide and two are skinny?

Joroen,
In the short term if I can understand your solution I'll implement that way.

However, I really want a more graphical approach. I just found this extension and if I can figure out the CSS then maybe it is what I'm looking for? Where would I place it...which position?
