There was a good thread under the 3.0 support topic but it's already on pages 3 and 4 so it seemed a good idea to start new.
Quote "Hunter gatherer":All you need to do is submit a support request. They will send you a link. It looks like they are treating it as an alpha release.
They are asking to be informed of any problems with the pre-release version before they announce it as a beta for download.
So, just go to "support", let them know you want the update for the Wordpress 3.0 version and they will send you the link.
I've downloaded and will be installing today. I had a couple questions about this download and received the following info:
Q. Does this version install like an upgrade and overwrite my current install of Artisteer 2.4?
A. Yes.
However you can install this version into a separate folder.
Simply do not uninstall an older Artisteer version during the installation process.
Q. For those whose renewal period has expired does this install as a trial version?
A. Yes
Q. If I choose to install on a testing machine instead will it install as a trial?
A. Yes.
However you can use your existing license key to activate this update.
I think the more that test this and provide feedback, the sooner we all get our expected /requested /anticipated upgrade.

I submitted a support request and got the update. Why do customers have to do that. Artisteer is a brilliant product, but they really need to improve communication with their customers. I don't know why they don't at least provide an update in their "news" page for the disappearing editor icon bug (why on earth don't they have a dedicated update page, or even better an update feature within the program itself?)

What editor bug? Can you tell me what that is?
I just downloaded and installed 2.5 in a separate dir.
Looks EXACTLY the same as 2.4.
I see only ONE diff: don't need the toemon patch. For ANOTHER $129, it hardly seems worth it...
Am I missing something?

Hi, Rosemary,
It does look the same. All the major changes exist in the background.
Exported templates have an entirely new directory structure - more compartmentalized which I think makes it easier to find where we would make edits, but I'll work it more before making that my final conclusion.
It supports custom menus for both horizontal and vertical menus.
There's favicon support - writing the reference link to the favicon instead of the server picking it up by default.
It looks like language support is enhanced.
Multiple footer widgets are supported and stacked side by side in columns.
What's missing is the default footer copyright and links, and so no editor link in the admin. I had to add and style a new div for that info into page.php (not in footer.php anymore)
All in all it looks as flexible as 2.4 but it does introduce - not a learning curve so much as a familiarizing curve. I think it's an advancement of the prooduct.
Re: ANOTHER $129
Quote :After your free 1 year upgrade period expires you will be able to continue using Artisteer without further updates, or you may purchase another year of updates at any time. The upgrade pricing is currently projected at 50% of the product price or less. For example, if you purchase the Artisteer Standard Edition for $129.95, couple years later you may want to consider upgrading it to the latest features for an additional $65 or less.

Hi Alband,
Thanks for the clarifications. True, $65 is a lot easier to swallow than $129!
A few questions:
Quote :It supports custom menus for both horizontal and vertical menus.
Is this feature different from 2.4 with Toemon patch?
Quote :It looks like language support is enhanced.
What does that mean exactly?
Thanks,
Rosemary

Hi, rosemary,
I think the menu is similar to Toemon's patch. The vertical menu creates a reproducable widget called Navigation Menu which can be placed in any widget area and maintains the vertical menu formating. I placed one in the left sidebar, one in the right, one above content and one in the footer - all custom menus, though there's also the choice of pages or categories.
The language support makes the call in functions.php to xili_language, which the twentyten theme does:

Hi,
Here's some updates regarding the Artisteer 2.5:
I imported a 2.4 created .artx without any issues, and I imported a 2.3 created .artx which also worked but it came with the warning that it had to be upgraded and should be backed up.
I've created a support issue regarding the default footer content not being passed into the 2.5 template and am corresponding on this issue with one of their techs.
Artisteer might have always had the side-by-side install but it's new to me so I'll include my results. I installed the 2.5 in a programs folder Artisteer 2.5 instead of the default Artisteer 2 and they both work alongside each other.
Additionally, the 2.5 must have detected my license because it opened up already activated.
This seems like a good feature to upgrade to a new version while maintaining the previous to fall back on - just in case.

Hi Abland,
Thats what the new 3.0 woo menu widget does:
Quote :though there's also the choice of pages or categories.
Works with Toemons as well.
So I don't see a $65 difference.

Hi, Rosemary,
I'm only starting to discover the new features in the 2.5, and it's not even a beta yet. I agree that there doesn't seem to be much difference on the surface between this and Toemon's patch or woo menus, but there are 2.5 enhancements beyond menus, and this testing phase is an opportunity to give feedback that eventually produces a worthwhile upgrade.
Also, from my personal point of view the Artisteer product is a tool that I would summarize like this:
1 Artisteer upgrade: $65.00
1 pot of coffee: $2.00
1 pizza: $25.00
1 received payment: $1,200.00
1 satisfied client with 3+ referals: priceless

Where are you buying you pizza?
LOL I can make a GREAT pizza for under $2.50.

They added more textures, glares, and gradients, etc.
Wish list so far:
1. Image styling (padding, borders, etc.)
2. H-Menu bar HEIGHT.

I just finally figured out how to change H-menu height. Works in 2.4 as well. So scratch item 2.

I did the same but was told there is a beta imminent, so to hold off...
They also said they regretted releasing it, as some people used it on production sites and got burnt with serious bugs!

Dave,
Thanks for the head's up. Glad to hear the beta is coming soon. Do you think they're doing a decent job adapting to Wordpress 3.0? I know a couple of weeks ago we were all a little steamed. What do you think today?

Awww, I was checking in today in hopes of seeing some movement on the 2.5 beta version. Ah, well. I guess I'll wait some more.
If there were to be an announcement sometime soon, where might I see it? The News section, maybe?

Peter,
Just send a support tix in asking for the Alpha release (understand it's not a public release as yet) and they will send you a link. I kept the download/install file of the stable release just in case...

Let's hope the release is sooner than later.

A bug in 2.4 was that when a widget was placed in the sidebar...the same widget would show up in the footer...any idea if this has been fixed? If it was already working before information on how to add the widgets would be appreciated. Also...it would be nice if the Sidebar Background and Content could be made completely or partially transparent. If this has been fixed I am pretty happy.

I downloaded Artisteer 2.5 for Windows update (2.5.0.29918) and installed it.
Is this a beta or not. I ran a previous made theme , saved it and then uploaded, it has buggered up the theme to sorts.
Does not show footer, menus or anything that this update says it does.
Anyone have any answers or similar problems. And more so a fix
