No, Artisteer will NOT run via Wine.
Don't waste your time.
Use virtualbox ou a real SO.

I've tried to install Aritsteer through Wine but it failed due to some dll's not registering.

I'm running Artisteer in WINE. It's easy :)

1.) Download the winetricks script from http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
2.) Run `sh winetricks corefonts tahoma fontfix d3dx9 vcrun6 ie7`
3.) Install Artisteer

Installing vcrun6 is the real trick, you may or may not need the others. If you have an LCD screen, run `sh winetricks fontsmooth-rgb` to get decent looking text.

Good luck!
Arnold

You also need the .NET framework. You can install that with winetricks as well running `sh winetricks dotnet20`.

I have wine installed on Gentoo Linux. I've tried this and its not worked. It keeps giving me tons of errors. I've followed your steps here and it came back with some errors... and ie7 did not install right. I tried to install the .NET framework and that did not work as it says I need ie5. I installed ie6 and then I was able to install the .Net framework.

Now, when I open the app, it keeps saying attempt to load the C runtime incorrectly. Then it says that it failed to load mscorwks.dll.

Any ideas? How can I install the dlls?

I haven't used wine on my computer in a L-O-N-G time. I found out my install had gone sour from too much tweaking back when I was trying to get DreamWeaver installed with wine (and to no avail).

Anyhow, I deleted /.wine and reinstalled wine and then followed your steps. Everything worked good except ie7 did not install, it came back with too many errors. So, I went with ie6.

Anyhow, I got artisteer working on Linux now but the layout is a little messed up. It doesn't show the sheet or the header. Any idea how I can fix it?

Well, I found out that I didn't have gecko installed. I got that installed and now it works except when I change the glare of something, then it starts acting weird. The section where it shows the website template re-sizes to like 300X300 and then after a few secs, often it will crash leaving no warning.

Any ideas?

For the installation, you need to do:

1.) Download the winetricks script from http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
2.) Run `sh winetricks corefonts tahoma fontfix d3dx9 vcrun6 ie6`
3.) Run 'sh winetricks dotnet20'
4.) Run 'sh winetricks gecko'

Also, make sure that you are running wine as Windows XP. Run winecfg to find out and change it to XP if needed.

I had to start artisteer from the terminal to find out why it was locking up... it said it was because of a lack of resources (I need more RAM). However, I still have the problem with buttons not showing up when I click on the link to select a header image. And also I get the problem with the workspace resizing.

I've installed Dependency Walker and started Artisteer with that. It says that its missing the APPHELP.DLL dll. I don't know what to do about that because I can't find apphelp.dll for wine. I guess I could get one from windows... but they say thats a bad idea in most cases. Also, you don't always need every one of the dlls.

I did a profile on the program using depenency walker and I've been getting TONS of errors saying, "error reading the PE Headers of ****. Entry-point address cannot be determinated. No Access to memory location (998).

Right now, I have no idea how to fix it but its so close... I'm thinking somebody ought to be able to get it working.

Actually, it looks like there's a lot more missing dlls than I thought. It says errror opening file. File Not Found (2).

Here they are:

mscorpe.dll
mscorsec.dll
msdis150.dll
mspdb80.dll
oleaut32.dll (part of .NET 2.0)

system.dvr16
/ (this one shows a red exclamation mark and on the right it says Error Opening File. Access denied. (5).

I tried the instructions two posts up, while I was able to install Artisteer, it cannot start because a "Parameter is not valid"

Clicking "Yes" does nothing since I removed Evolution.

I realize this thread is old but I thought I'd share my experience with attempting to install Artisteer under Wine 0.10.0 on Ubuntu 9.04.

Downloaded winetricks, then accomplished above steps, including dotnet20 (NOT dotnet20sp2--didn't work); ie7 seemed OK. Was able to remove the one font which causes crashes of .Net.

Here are the installation messages:

As you can probably tell from the above, the error I got at the end in a window on the desktop was:
Registration of some ActiveX controls and/or Type Libraries failed. Installation will finish but the application may not work properly.
The following controls couldn't be registered:

In a separate post, I'll post the errors I get when I start up Artisteer 2.4 under Wine.
Any help or observations you may have will be welcome. I do not run Windows here.
THank you!

My guess is that most of these are Wine errors, not Artisteer ones. And I suspect that the failure to register that one class may be related.

Any thoughts/suggestions, please?

I followed the procedure as described above:

Quote :
1.) Download the winetricks script from http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
1a.) Run 'sh winetricks winxp'
2.) Run `sh winetricks corefonts tahoma fontfix d3dx9 vcrun6 ie6`
3.) Run 'sh winetricks dotnet20'
4.) Run 'sh winetricks gecko'

I changed step 2:
2.) Run 'sh winetricks corefonts fontfix d3dx9 vcrun6 ie6_full'

After that, I installed Artisteer 2.4

The terminal window showed a lot of messages related to gdiplus. I also received errors in a pop-up window during the first run of Artisteer. I had to kill the application, I could not close.

So I added step 5:
5.) Run 'sh winetricks gdiplus'

Then I could run Artisteer successfully and open a template created in a Virtual Box session with XP installed. I did not test any further yet. When I encounter any problems, I keep you all informed.
:-D

Hello Johnny (and all other interested),

I will give a short overview of what I did in chronological order:
1) I did delete the directory ".wine" in my home directory in order to have a clean install of wine
2) Download the winetricks script from from http://wiki.winehq.org/winetricks
3) I started up the shell
4) Execute 'sh winetricks winxp' This command will set your wine environment to Windows XP
5) Execute 'sh winetricks corefonts fontfix d3dx9 vcrun6 ie6_full' This command will install the right fonts, directx, visual C runtime en IE6 in your wine.
6) Execute 'sh winetricks dotnet20' to install the dotnet runtime libraries
7) Execute 'sh winetricks gdiplus' to install some additional visualization libraries
8) Execute 'sh wine Artisteer_installer.exe' to install Artisteer

I am running this on my Dell Latitude D600 laptop, with OpenSUSE 11.3 and wine 1.3.4 installed. As I have stated in my previous post, Artisteer will run correctly. I tested 2.4 and 2.5, no differences.

BUT.....
I did a little bit of further testing and it turned out that all transparent objects are displayed wrong or not at all in Artisteer under wine. I am quite sure, that this may be caused by another missing library (DLL-file), but I didn't figure out which one yet. MAYBE one of the Artisteer development guys can help us Linux users, by telling which one. Please........

Regards,
Werner.

Hi Werner,

Your patience is remarkable. I've messed with WINE before and I must say, it isn't a picnic trying to get stuff working that isn't on the Bronze or Silver list.

Hello Werner!

Thanks for all the info! :-)

Maybe, I'll give this all a try on the weekend, though, the transparencies are vital.

Hopefully, the developers will get the first Linux beta out!!!

Bulls eye.

Hello all, I got it to work! It has cost met half a nights sleep, and a serious headache.

After my previous post, I started thinking, what may cause the transparency problem? Finally, I realised, as you all may know, that a website created with Artisteer isn't displayed correctly in IE6. Can this be the problem? As you know, this is solved by installing IE7.

Easy, joust install IE7... not. IE7 didn't install in my excisting wine installion. A lot of crashes during setup. How to solve? After a while I found out, that the crashes were related to msvcrt-dll's. I simply copied the dll's from my excisting windows partition to my wine system32 directory.

Then I starteed all over, to test my installation procedure, and I fell into another booby trap. The dotnet installation crashes after installing IE7, and does not after installing IE6. On the other hand, dotnet doesn't install when no IE is present, so there's only one way: install IE6, dotnet20, IE7. Nice, isn't it?

For all you Linux die hards, this is the procedure I followed:

1) download the latest winetricks script
2) on a 32 bit machine execute: 'sh winetricks winxp'
on a 64 bit machine execute: env WINEARCH=win32 ./winetricks winxp
3) execute 'sh winetricks corefonts fontfix tahoma d3dx9 vcrun6sp6'
4) sh winetricks ie6_full
5) wineboot
6) sh winetricks dotnet20 (this installs gecko automatically)
7) sh winetricks gdiplus
8) copy from you excisting c:\windows\system32 the following files:
msvcrt.dll
msvcrt20.dll
msvcrt30.dll
to .wine/drive_c/windows/system32
9) wineboot
10) sh winetricks ie7
The installation of IE7 is a bit buggy, but it must and will run without any
crashes eventually. When you experience problems, just run the installation
again, and again... By the way, I did disable the "online update" option in
one of the installation screens. I don't know whether it's realy necessary,
be my guest to test.
11) wineboot
12) wine Artisteer_installation_file.exe
13) start working!

I will start working, and will report any stability issues when they excist. I invite you all to test also.

And yes, as we Dutch say: "De aanhouder wint".

Regards,
Werner.

Hello Fabrizio,

I did this installation on two different machines, one 32 bit linux and one 64 bit linux. Both running well.

The error "Pleae set registry key HKLM\Software\microsoft\.NETframework\InstallRoot to point to th .NET Framework install location" seems to be related to the missing dotnet. I did a lot of testing and installation over and over, and one thing I know for sure, you surely need dotnet AND IE7. When you don't succeed installing, you have to search the web for any help.

For your information, I use the following SW:
openSuse 11.3
Wine 1.3.5
Wintricks 201008

But anyhow, when one of the steps doesn't succeed successfully, you can not run Artisteer.

I wish you good luck.

Regards,
Werner.
