I've installed the old version 4.1 also the v4.2 RC2. There was no problem to run v4.1 separately or v4.2 RC2. But now i've uninstall v4.2RC2 and with the final version 4.2 the old version 4.1 don't work anymore. I get all the time an error-message. Can somebody help in this case? Both versions were installed in different folders.

I'm running 4.1 and 4.2 side by side without issue. What error message are you getting?

@Trevor
Thanks for your help.
The message:
"Project you wanna open is generated with a newer version"
But there is no newer project-file - v4.1 crashes after starting it. I have no chance to open a project.

If you saved the project with 4.2 then you can't open it with 4.1, that message sounds like you're trying to open a 4.2 project in 4.1.

I'm sorry, I think maybe you mean 4.2 is giving you that error. Is that what you're saying?

Hi, Georg,
When you have two installs of the 4.x versions, and uninstall one, it takes needed system files in the uninstall that cripples the remaining program.
Reinstall 4.1 and say yes to remove previous version (if it asks). That should have 4.1 working again for you, and the reinstall should remember your license and activate okay.

I have 4 versions installed currently.
Make sure to install them in separate folders.
I would uninstall all and start over. Create a folder for each one and install them.
Always use the uninstall file by going to the folder/bin to remove. It shouldn't even know or ask you about a different version if you do it this way.

Uninstall everything. Then clean your computer. By that I mean clean your registry with crap cleaner or something similar. Use crap cleaner or a similar program to clean out your cache, cookies and so on. Artisteer is browser based so cleaning out your cache in all browsers could help.
Then install 4.1 first, check if it works. After that install 4.2 in a different directory. You should be fine. If not, then there is something seriously wrong with your system.
Hope this helps.

hi
|
you saved this project with artisteer 4.2. If you do so, you can not open this project with an earlier Version of Artisteer!
Try to open another old Project with Version 4.1 by rightclicking the .artx file. Then choose open with (artisteer 4.1). You will see, it works.

Quote Georg:
Thank you to all of you.
I've tried everything. No chance.
After starting v4.1 i get the same error-message.
"Project can not opened because it was made by a newer version"
I've no chance to open anything. How it can happen that the empty template (start-template) was made by a newer version???
Both versions were installed in different folders.
You must be doing something. You must be trying to open a new project file. Uninstall all versions. Install only 4.1 and see if you can open a sample from within the program.
You are saying you can't open a sample template that's within the program?

Change the .artx to .zip and open it as a zip file.
Then extract and open TemplateProperties.xml.
You should see something like:
<?xml version="1.0"?> -<TemplateProperties version="4.1.0.59861"><Template name="ArtisteerNet"/><Template name="Html"/><Template name="Blogger" VMenu="archive" TopMenu="pages" ShowNavbar="true" ShowHomePage="true" Location="save" HomePageName="Home"/></TemplateProperties>
This will tell you which version the template is.

Been using Artisteer for years and I currently still have 4.1 installed, but want to check out 4.2RC. From what I'm seeing, it sounds best to uninstall everything Artisteer, install 4.1 to a folder named something like "Artisteer 4.1" and install 4.2 RC to a folder named something like "Artisteer 4.2". For previously created .art projects I should make a copy of them, renaming them from "Example Website" to "Example Website 4.1" and "Example Website 4.2". Working with each in the appropreiate version...for now. I think once I feel more comfortable with 4.2 and the export function, I probably won't go back. Thoughts?

Don't use 4.2 RC, they've released the official 4.2 so use that instead.

Actually yes you can. I've already done it.
If you saved it in v4.2 just open SiteTemplate.xml and change the version part to Visible="true" version="4.1.0.59861" class="SiteTemplate"
Then 4.2 files will open in 4.1
keywords: open newer project on older version of artisteer, open artisteer v4.3 project on/by artisteer v4.1

I wonder how did he managed two copies of Artisteer on the same system [?], I would love to install two copies v4.1 and v4.2 [or 4.3] on the same system BUT Don't know why?
Is this possible even?
