What is the best practice approach to adding a logo that will display in mobile browsers as well as traditional when using A4.1/responsive design/Joomla?

You can replace the code drawing the 'headline/site title' and/or 'slogan' with you image (saves you having to do too much setting the css yourself, unless you need both that is ;-))

i play around with methods, but one I like is replacing the header with a 100% div and putting a module position in that and using the 'site title' div and changing out the text for a logo image. means I have nice sliders with a floating logo over the top.

it would be better if we had more intuitive stuff so that you can do more without editing manually, but sometimes it's best to dig in... (you can add custom positions in the header in 4.1, but you would have to edit the div anyway to be responsive, i guess they forgot that...)

A agree with Aorta to utilize the position-30 which is in the header. I like to use a custom HTML module so that I can modify the html code and position it a little better than letting the Random Image module do it for me.

Don't forget you can also get into the index.php and modify the html around the header position-30 as well to tweak as necessary.
