Hello and welcome to my question.
I have a website which has a multitude of individual contributors to a news-type section. One contributor is a well known and well respected individual and, therefore, has his own "editorial" blog, so to speak. Others are to be published separately.
What I cannot figure out is this: Is it even possible to have two menu items as blogs? Or can you only have one blog and the rest simply must be pages?

Create a category for each blog and then assign a category blog as the menu item. You can have as many as your heart desires.

As Dave B stated that is correct. You can even set a different template/style to the other blog menu item by using the template manager and using the menu assignment feature inside Joomla!. This way you can make this second blog have a different look and feel if you desire.
