Has there been any more word regarding extending the upgrade period since Artisteer 4.0 has taken so long to get to even RC2 and sounds like some impacting bugs (not just minor) still exist?
Mine unfortunately expires tomorrow - so hopefully they will make an exception until 4.0 is in final RTM.

Nothing has been announced yet. They had extended the subscriptions by 3 months last spring, and that's about it.
It does not really matter, sooner or later, most of us will upgrade our subscriptions anyway - cost of doing business.

That's not the whole story. they took down the 3.1 templates and replaced them with 4.0. I have the Mac version of the tool and I now have no samples. What do I tell my clients? Artisteer says they will release the Mac version "shortly" Two months is a lot longer than "shortly". They asked me which templates I wanted but they still haven't delivered them
