Well, so is v4 RC2 improved? Responsive?

I'm seeing a few posts, but nothing substantial on the newest version of Artisteer.

The last time they posted a release candidate there was a great commotion concerning the responsive design characteristics.

Have those been eliminated or have they reappeared in RC2?

Anything else significant worth noting?

Richard,

This is a great point! I have not downloaded the newest version yet and would like to know how it differs. Any feedback yet?

The only bugs left are minor. The "responsive design characteristics" as you put it, were never an issue since they introduced it since beta2.

One such small bug is that if you have a search box in the header, the menu's submenus go under the search box. Obviously to see this bug, you need to have your menu above the header, have a search box in the header, and have submenus that will go under the search box. This can be fixed easily by changing the correct z-index value in the style.css file after you export your template.

If there were major problems, we were going to read about them by now, right?

Still VERY buggy.
1. Text shadows are really messed up. Change the shadow color for one item and it changes for other items you've already styled.

2. No way to remove text shadows from input boxes. (Yes I tried setting text shadow to None but the setting is ignored.)

3. Input text boxes have a beveled border even when the border width is set to 0.

4. No way to style the text on metadata bar. Author's name is one font but hovering shows a completely different font. And there is no place to correct it.

5. Search box partially shows "Search..." behind the search box. It shows just part of the label. (Joomla 2.7 template) . The text does NOT show in any of the default Joomla templates.

6. Footer text/html does not appear correctly in Joomla 2.7.

7. Elements can be selected and yet the entire edit bar is dimmed allowing for no styling of the element.

8. Subsequent saves of an existing v4.0.0.58240 project result in the "The project was upgraded..." dialog each and every time it is saved.

9. The background color or glare cannot be set individually for multi-column templates. I.e. The left and right columns must be styled the same. Only the width can be different.

Well in terms of responsive, there are still problems with the header image.

It (header image) either disappears compleately or resizes in a strange (non uniform) way.

Biggest problem I have with responsive menu is that the sub-items can't be selected, which kind of makes it useless!

Images in the header need to be manually placed in a separate DIV, can't be done within AS.

Problem with the z-order of the search box is being addressed, I have been told.

I am not sure what you mean by selected. If you mean that the sub menus don't show up, then you are wrong. You can control the responsive menu behavior by:

Submenu Options -> Responsive Levels: you have 3 choices: 1. One Level (default), 2. Expand With Reload (my choice), and 3. All open.

Looks like the responsive.js is conflicting with other responsive jquery plugins eg sliders. I have tried several that work fine in other templates but refuse to display correctly when included in an Artisteer V4 responsive template. I have found one that works well here : http://www.dpereyra.com/

Just curious, does anyone know if in RC2 if they were able too, or going to fix header image cross browser problem in wordpress (ex: IE8)?

@ Arch: I had reported this here since beta1, and contacted support, and they played the "we don't know what you are talking about" card.

I have to admit that at least now some jquery plugins work, as there are also some conflicts with some others.

The problem is that they don't admit the jquery conflicts the templates are causing, which is the first step. How can we trust them that they are going to fix the jquery conflicts, when they don't even recognize the problem?

Nick good to see I'm not imagining the problem. It seems worse when an image is included in the plugin. I've had a look at the script.responsive.js file and it would seem that they are resizing all images on the page regardless of whether they are in a third party plugin. It should be easy enough to select on an image class or id and filter out the third party ones. That would be a start at least.

I see what you are saying Arch. All we can do is report them, and let the dev. team do their thing. It might take some time this time around, since the code now is so complex. The dev. team always comes though, so it's a matter of time I think.

My problem is the lack of communication...

BTW, wowslider works like a charm now, as do the plugins from elegantthemes.com. But a few others still pose some conflicts. I am looking at the codes, and I can't find a simple solution. I used to think it was a matter of naming the jquery functions, but after further testing, that is clearly not the case.

Even with all the small problems, Art. V4 is simply the best, and worth every cent, and some. Just remember, there is no such thing as "perfect software".
