Are we limited to where we can place the search box?
I would like to put it at the end of the horizontal menu above my slideshow which is in the header, or at least be able to place it in the same position as the horizontal menu in joomla, just in order 2.

You can't do this within Artisteer, but you can do it by exporting your them and editing the exported files.
I'm not sure how to do it with Joomla as I use Drupal, but try a search of these forums or a Google search and someone has probably already done it.
Or perhaps (!) put it in user2 and then use a negative margin to move it up a bit.

Did anybody come up with a solution to placing the search box in the Joomla horizontal menu? 
This would really be a nice Artisteer feature!

If you manually place the search box in menu manually, you will run into problems with the responsive layouts.
The only way that you can do this, (and I have done this), is to place the menu within the header, and then place the search box in the menu. This is the only working solution that I have found so far.
