Artisteer code cleaner in 4.0?

I'm interested in the upcoming release of 4.0 and am hoping Artisteer or users can help ease my concerns about the code it generates.

In reading up on the product, I've seen various discussions about the code that Artisteer generates being a bit "bloated."

What, if any, improvements have been made to version 4.0 that will allow for "cleaner" code? Is there a big difference between the code that Artisteer generates vs. the code you would need from making the same template yourself (such as in Notepad or Dreamweaver)?

This is an excellent question. I too have seen some things around while dealing with my Joomla sites. Various forum and support tickets have mentioned this. I would like to hear some input from them and advanced designers with knowledge of existing standards, etc.

Let's analyze what's extra (if Artisteer would have been just a template making tool):

- The lightbox.

and since 3.0 the classes to define the page layouts.

Nothing more. Of course now we also have the slideshows and all the coding for the responsive design. However, these 2 things though should be part of templates, so we need to discount them.

So the extras because of the content editing feature are the lightbox, and the classes for the page layouts. It's not the end of the world, in fact it is not that bad in terms of bloatware. Do we experience any performance issues when using Artisteer templates? The simple answer is no. At least I don't see any performance issues. The large png header files (500-800kb each) should be a bigger concern. So it is a few lines of extra coding that does not affect the performance. We can live with that - at least I can. am I wrong with my analysis? Did I miss something?

Somebody says bloatware, and enough people repeat the phrase, and now that becomes a fact. It's not black and white, and it's simply not fair to Artisteer.

All is not that good either too however. I know as a fact that Dave B wants all the extras taken out, and my position is that I don't mind them, as long as they are implemented correctly. The way they have implemented the jquery library in the templates conflicts with third party jquery plugins, and furthermore, it conflicts with any Quickersite module that uses jquery, slideshows, page peel, etc... If this problem is fixed, it will be awesome. The best template making software, and content editing in one software. Who else does this?

I started a list of conflicting plugins in another post, I would ask you all to add to the list so the developers would at least know about the problems, and try to fix them soon:

I should add wowslider to the list as well btw...

Artisteer don't monitor these forums though, and certainly feedback here doesn't get back to the developers. The only way is to raise support tickets for issues.

Nick, I really only want the extra stuff removed from the Joomla templates (or somehow optional if it's adding ANY new scripts to load. It's really about choices. They will never be able to get everything to play nice with Joomla having 1000's of extensions. Since I use JCE on 99% of my sites I have a highly configurable popup creator built in. Don't want any new code loading for this. Header slideshow, haven't heard anything positive here so far. All converted jpgs to bloated png complaints. I use a photo extension for sites that a header size image is as small as it can be, KB size wise. It would just be nice to have the header as a position you can customize yourself in Joomla. Again, I want to control what this does. I found out WP people will actually use this content feature so leave in the WP creation.

I would love to try this on the html creation and am actually looking forward to a stable release. The more the merrier on this if it works correctly. They would most likely be the only ones adding any js so you could submit a ticket and it would be something they could fix or admit it's their issue.

Chris, someone is monitoring these forums. Try and post something they don't like and it will be gone in hours. Whether it's just for spam or competatoors, not sure. Hopefully they are silently using the feedback for the product. It' would be a full time job for someone. I know since I have been, I am spending plenty of time here but I also try to help others besides voicing concerns.

As far as price. If you use this for a serious tool, who cares really (within reason). I could use GIMP but no I have Photoshop Extended. That is not a cheap product, but it's worth it. This is if they get it right, per Nick. The only downside is you have to keep this software up to date if you want to keep your CMS current.

Finally, we could rally if needed if they refuse to consider they are not the only thing in use on CMS sites and it's causing problems. We can use the inter webs to combat this. ;-)

Sorry for another long winded post.

They can implement everything correctly, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

You are a real light at the end of the tunnel, not a train. Love that saying by the way.

Joomla 3.x is supposed to have jquery built in so I assume that will be very good. I know some developers are happy in the extension world.

One more reason for Artisteer templates to isolate their jquery implementations...
