Use a tool like Notepad++ where you can find and replace text in all files in a folder and subfolders at once. It will be a 5 second job whether there are 57 or 557 files.

V3 doesn't add this comment, why does V4?

I do use NP++ to do as you suggest - what it means though are several extra steps in the workflow process. I can no longer publish the site from Art4, just by clicking a button.

If it was free software or shareware I could excuse this, but I've paid for Artisteer (and several license renewals).

Most paid products don't splatter themselves all over with branding. Yes it's code, but it's still there.

V3 adds it to the CSS files as well.

When I have time I will create a short video, to completely eliminate the problem withing a minute or 2.

I also wonder, if this is present in the plugin files. Thus, killing it at the plugins level, will do the trick. I'll report back.

That said, ideally have the version number is not a bad idea, for many reasons, I suggest you just change the word "Artisteer" with your name instead. Doing so, i don't think you are violating any copyrights, as the exported code is royalty free, and you can do whatever you want with it. Are there any attorneys out there to confirm this?

I agree the version has helped me once or twice. Good call

Wow, I like you Dave B !!!

Ok, here is the video. It is just under 2 minutes, because I am demstrating things, but I clocked myself doing it in under 15 seconds...

Just modify the export files.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Artisteer 4\Library\Data\Templates
Should be able to delete it in there...

Very good video Nick. This will come in handy. I don't have Dreamweaver on all my computers and didn't know notepad++ could do this too.

I don't care if my templates are identified as Artisteer templates or not (in fact I'm proud of that fact), but you have to laugh at how things work out sometimes.

In the past, many requested ways to hide the fact their web sites were using Artisteer templates, so their customers wouldn't know they were using a $49/$129 software, obviously to justify their prices to them. Nevermind the fact that they were probably using a free open source cms, but that's a different story.

So how did Artisteer respond? They gave us the ability to change the class prefix from the export->options menu, from art- to anything we want, but left in the part that says "Created by Artisteer" in the exported files!!! Does this make any sense? What am I missing here? And nobody said anything until now, because... nobody really cared about it.

That said though, even if you change the physical appearance of the template, and take the "Created by Artisteer" part out, and change the prefix for the classes, an expert just looking at the code, can easily identify whether it's an Artisteer template or not.

True that. An expert just looking at the code, would easily identify it. Keyword being "expert".

Not sure if I'm on the wrong track (I'm a novice), but if you're trying to remove the "Created by Artisteer" from the Footer, it's available as a setting in File > Export > Options > Footnote.

;-)

Hi BK,

We are not talking about the footer, if you look at the video listed above, you should understand what's going on here.

Then you might understand what Sam is agreeing to... because the video is only half the story to all of this.

I show my clients what I use, tell them how much it costs if they ask and am completely open with them.
I use Joomla for the most part and explain that if they wish it will not be difficult for them to find an alternative web company.
I do not even have a contract but tell them that if they are not happy with my services they can move whenever they wish.
None ever have and the confidence they have in the open approach helps with the initial sale.
The do not pay me for making a template, nor for making the site but for helping them make their web strategy work.
So I remove the footnote mentioning Artisteer from clients' sites because it is irrelevenent to their customers but I happily leave other references.

I have worked with several clients, using Artisteer to design beautiful templates, and yes, I use a free CMS, WordPress.

The clients, without exception, have no idea what Artisteer means or what it is, and are not interested in learning. To them WordPress is very difficult to use and discern, and they all need training in basic WordPress for at least 4 hours (and some more) to update pages and posts.

I've shown clients Artisteer on my laptop before, but they have no idea what it is, and don't want to know, and would have no idea how to use it if you were to give it to them free. I would not ever tell clients about Artisteer because they have zero interest in it.

Competing "web developers" in Denver, Colorado, almost all just sell recycled Genesis templates and know only very basic WordPress, but have social and business connections to generate profits. 99% of my prospective clients have Genesis templates, WordPress, and are completely lost as to what to do with the mess they paid for and don't know what to do with.

I always use contracts because if I don't, I have clients constantly changing their minds midstream, asking for more and more options, wanting to change colors half-way into creating a theme, asking for customized buttons, logos, original content to be written for them, e-commerce added, more items added daily, and more than I could ever write now.

It takes me hours, if not days, to create original themes for clients and then get approval. Then it takes the clients weeks to send me the files and images I need, weeks to get the graphic designer to work with their logos, weeks to set up the e-commerce and then pursue the clients to get them to pay....so I'd be crazy :-( to work without a contract. It lets the client know I'm professional and serious, and that if they don't want to pay for all the work done for them, I have recourse. I'm also a member of a local BBB and have an LLC registered with the local Secretary of State.
