Greetings - I would like to make the v4.0 beta fully functional (i.e. be able to save my project). If I buy a v3.1 Standard License ($129) and apply it to v4.0 will this do the trick? AND will I have to pay more money when the official v4.0 is released?

Purchase of the Home & Academic Edition or the Standard Edition entitles you to free upgrades for one year. You would be entitled to the current Version 3.1, any Beta releases, and the final release of Version 4.0 (assuming it is released within the next 12 months).

As suggested above, you can activate 4.0 with a 3.1 license key and you'll get free updates for one year.
