Why do I buy software such as Artisteer? Heck why wouldn’t I.

I am always amazed by this forum. Sometimes I come here and see people like Garry trying to help others to find their way around the software. Other times I find people that seem to expect miracles for a 129.00 product.

So why would I buy this software? The obvious reason is it has the potential to save me time, however for some it may be they are not very good at design and see this as a way to help them create better designed websites. For others it may be they have design skills but not coding skills, or maybe they just don’t have the time to code out a complete site.

It doesn’t really matter why you buy the software, however one would assume it benefits you in some small way. So answer this? Why would you buy something that saves you time and does a lot of your work for you? Only to complain bitterly about the software when it’s in a beta version? Seems to me your time would be better spent learning the skills necessary to create better websites without the product. Maybe you can learn to code PHP and CSS or take design classes at your local college.

My reason for buying Artisteer is not to complain about it, but to add to my workflow which again helps to save me time. If you are looking for an all in one solution that has no issues, let me tell you it does not exist. Picking on the developers that have graciously put the beta out to the public hoping for positive feedback to help produce a better product is in my opinion reprehensible. It’s understandable that people have bad days and need to vent a little, but this is not the forum for that.

My two cents.

This is certainly one way to look at it. I fully agree anyone who is acting like this is a full release is not to sharp. I personally am not complaining about the beta issues/bugs as that is the point of a beta. I am testing it and reporting bugs to support. I have been thanked for pointing out one so far.

On the other hand, I am talking more about new additions and unresolved issues from the 3.x version.

So far I have noticed:
The new version is bloating page sizes in my Joomla installs by 200-300KB by calling the mootools-more.js script to load. I'm talking a fresh install with NO nothing but a plain white no header image, etc template. I have sites that are under 175 KB for the homepage and that is quite good for a CMS site. Now with the new template it is close to 500 KB. Why, support says 3.* and 4.0 beta versions have different structure and require different .js files. Probably something to do with the new features NOT in templating. Whatever is causing this should be an option then. So that's not a beta thing but a big negative to me.

The new interface is cluttered up with every option vs the site template specific options. Why do I want to see this when creating a Joomla template for example if it's not usable? I don't. This is a personal opinion but if Adobe combined Dreamweaver and Photoshop it would be a drawback. No?

They seem to be moving towards a more website creation software which is going to dilute the feature updates for the template functions. Should be a add-on, off/on or separate program. Discounted if you buy both. Something. Is this a beta test, maybe or at least I hope so.

The list of new features for templates is nice but newer features of Joomla for example are not supported yet. Don't know about Drupal or Wordpress. I don't want to learn the parts of this that I don't use until I need to. Too much focus on the website building, main complaint after the bloat.

All that said, in case anyone actually reads this, I have been very happy overall with the program. It is an amazing idea and time saver not to mention creative and fun to use.

It's their decision what the software does and maybe it will draw more customers, but it may have me looking for other options. I can live with everything except the page bloat, but that is probably why I am even writing this.

Why bring this up at all. I have a lot of time and sites relying on this software. This software needs to be updated so I can update the templates so I can update the CMS sites and that makes me want to add my two cents.
