I'm looking for a free shopping cart plugin for WP that is easy to set up and maintain and has widgets for the sidebars as well as a product slideshow for the header. Does this exist? I'm finding all sorts of things that don't quite fit the bill...the best I've found is Marketpress, but it doesn't appear to have a slideshow and I've not yet find one that would work with it.

I should also mention that I want to build the theme in Artisteer...so I would obviously need a shopping cart/slideshow that plays well with Artisteer created themes.

I'm using WP Online Store, which installs a full OsCommerce store within your site.

ECWID !!! They even have a plugin at wordpress.org. Free for 100 items, 17/month for up to 20,000 items. This is the easiest, full featured e-commece package. Build one catalog and embed it in as many sites as you like within 20 seconds.

The best Shopping cart I ahve seen is Avactis, I don't know for sure if it supports WP and it isn't free but you get what you pay for... I use a older vserion of it and have for over 6 years and it is a very easy cart to operate.

I quite like eShop at the moment. Add products in as normal posts or pages.

I also use eshop. It is good as long as you have one set of options. For example, if you are selling rings, you can set one type of options like the metal (14k, 18k, platinum), and that's it. You can create other option sets, like the type of center stone, Gift wrap it or not, etc... Also, you can't really sell T-shirts without splitting the product - you need 2 option sets, Size and Color.
All these can be done with ecwid.

I double checked, and I was wrong. You can have multiple option sets with eshop. The way it is setup was not that apparent at first. I also recommend it!

Hi, tinamama,
I've been liking theCartPress more and more:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/thecartpress/
There's no slideshow capability built in, but it's very flexible for coding. Off the top of my head, using NextGen Gallery with JJ NextGen JQuery slider for the slidehsow:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/nextgen-gallery/
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/jj-nextgen-jquery-slider/
and placing the product page link into the description area for the slideshow image, you could get a nice effect for featured products.

I am a HUGE Fan of Tribulant's WP Checkout http://tribulant.com/plugins/view/10/wordpress-shopping-cart-plugin ECommerce solution - Major plus is that they have integreated USPS REAL TIME SHIPPING along with FedEx UPS and some other APIs - this has been hard to find in WP shopping cart plugins.
I've already completed the migration of one Joomla / Virtuemart site to WP With this plugin http://dangcoolartworks.com and am finishing up two other migrations: http://betterwebsitebuilders.com/energybars and http://joannmorgan.com/newsite.
The customer service at Tribulant is beyond compare and their prices are very fair.
Good luck!

Thanks for this useful information.
Well, well... It's a shame that we can't evaluate them...

So how to make a choice?

I don't think I seen WooCommerce mentioned. You can get it as a plugin. I have installed in artisteer templates and it has worked.
I have never ran a full online store with it, but I have installed it and tested it out and played around with it for a bit to get a feel for it. It looks like it has a lot of possibilities. I think it is open source so free to use.

If you want a shopping cart that works with Artisteer use tribulant shopping cart. Its not that expensive and pays for itself extremely quickly. It contains support for 80 different payment gateways straight from the box. If you are setting up an online store, you should do it properly. Customers are very unforgiving of second rate online stores.
I have dozens of clients using tribulant, because it is simple to use for non techy people, its SEO blows everything else from the water, and the support from tribulant is first class. One of my clients did almost 200k in sales last year, separate from their brick and mortar store
