Problems with featured images?

I am in the process of a slight redesign of one of my sites. It's my first redesign using Artisteer 3.0.0.37990.

I'm using WP3.1.

Featured Images is NOT working as expected or as it did in previous versions of Artisteer.

If I turn on "Use featured image as thumbnail," I do indeed get a thumbnail view of any image I inserted as a featured image, but the image does NOT show up in the single post view.

I've tried this with every plugin turned off, same result, and using a brand new theme with no edits, same result.

Does anyone know what is wrong? How to fix it? I DO want my featured image to show both as a thumbnail in the post list view AND as a large size image in the single post view.

If you go to this page, you'll see the thumbnail showing properly on the post about Flash: http://marilynfenndesign.com/page/8/

But when you open that post, no featured image.

Hope someone can help me; I'm totally mystified.

Thanks, webguygary.

However, in the previous version of Artisteer (v2.5), on WP 2.9 up through 3.1, inserting a featured image is a feature that I've used, for example, to replace images in over 300 posts on another website, and I've been using the featured image feature for over 6 mos. it seems, without any problems. I've used it on dozens of websites created in Artisteer 2.5 or 2.6, and it works as advertised.

There are also some plugins that take advantage of the featured image feature.

I can use the regular insert image into post and changes the options to "Use auto thumbnails," and then the featured images don't work, but the first post image does.

But, according to WP.org, "When you set the featured image, it's used by the_post_thumbnail, in single post view, and in the excerpt view.."

So, I am wondering if no one else is having this problem with the featured image not showing in the single post (indicating perhaps that my theme is broken), or if the new version of Artisteer is broken.

Here is a link to the codex for post thumbnails. Perhaps it's an issue with a naming convention or maybe Artisteer has left something else out somewhere?

Or is it something wrong with my theme?

Marilyn,

I was having the same problem and found a solution:

First, I have my default set to "Use featured image as thumbnail."

Open content-single.php

change this:

'thumbnail' => theme_get_post_thumbnail(),

to this:

'thumbnail' => theme_get_post_thumbnail(array("size" => array(600, 300))),

__________________________________________________________

explanation:

600 = 600 px wide
300 = 300 px tall

You can substitute the numbers with whatever px dimension you want.

This solution makes my featured image 600 px wide x 300 px tall OR a smaller size if the original image is smaller.

And, this system retains the "turn featured image into auto thumbnail."

Amy,

Thanks so much for your tip, which I only noticed yesterday, when I was searching again for answers to this problem!!!

In the latest version of Artisteer, the line
'thumbnail' => theme_get_post_thumbnail(),

was missing entirely from both my files content-single.php and content-page.php, so this was in fact a huge part of the solution!

I decided to write up the solutions I found in a blog post, which you can read here, if you're interested: http://marilynfenndesign.com/using-featured-images-in-wordpress-websites/

Once again, thank a bunch for your tip!

As this isn't a bug, there's nothing wrong with them not showing the featured image on single posts. It's up to the theme to display or not display the featured image however it likes. The issue is they seemed to have changed the functionality awhile ago, which caused unexpected results for users that had been using or relying on this in a particular fashion.

You may not agree with their choice on not showing the featured image here, but there might be others that prefer it this way. They could provide display options per post for featured images, but that's not far off from just inserting the images into the post.

Hello Farhan,

Thank you for submitting the support ticket. Let's continue the conversation there. I would also recommend you, not to public the links to the support cases here as the forum is public. So we will remove the previous post but leave the link to this forum thread in the support ticket.
