how to add new regoins in drupal artiseer theme? |

hai, i need to add region in drupal artiseer theme. i am seeing lot of php function in page.tpl.php. i couldnt able to understand those php function. can anyone know this function? For what logic they have been implemented?
If i want to remove the "$content" variable in page-front.tpl.php page means, where i have to see that variable. please help me.

thanks for your help.
but i want to create a region above the right side bar , where i have to put my custom block php variable.For example
i created a region called top right in theme.info file and i want to know where i have to put my block variable ($top_right ) in page-front.php
<?php print $top_right; ?>
i am seeing lot of php function in artiseer theme page.tpl.php file which are not present in normal drupal theme such as art_get_sidebar_style(),
art_get_content_cell_style etc..
can you tell me the purpose of those php function?
