Vertical Menu In Sidebar Not Showing

Hi Everyone

Artiseer 2.5
Joomla 1.5.22

I have been searching this forum for the past day hoping to find an answer to my issue with vertical menu (position left) in sidebar but drawing a blank.

The template design and settings are done as per manual. Instead of showing the vertical menu as illustrated during design, the BLOCK content style is shown.

To test out, I have craeted a copy of the perfectly working main menu (position user3) but just change the position to left and the following changes to Advanced Parameters:

Show Whitespace: no
Caching: no caching
Module Class Suffix: art-vmenu [nothing displayed with art-vmenu, so changed back to blank]

Also, there is a red x (missing icon) when there is a sub menu item - sidebar block content unable to handle this?

Would really appreciate any pointers on how to solve this issue.

Hi fellow Artisteer user

Looks it this is a fairly common problem that has yet to have a satisfactory solution.

Maybe some "seniors" can lend a helping hand.

Cheers

I had the same issue and this did fix it.

Creating vertical menu
Starting with Artisteer 2.4 you can use an art-vmenu Module Class Suffix to apply Artisteer vertical menu style to your menu module.
To do this, please follow these steps:

Log in to Joomla Administration and go to Extensions -> Module Manager.
Select the module you want to edit.

http://www.artisteer.com/?p=help_joomla#joomla2

Go to Module Parameters and specify the art-vmenu suffix.
Keep in mind that you should disable caching if you create a click-open vertical menu

Hi Jaden

Did all that....still not getting the desired result.

Let me explain the situation (using a working Main Menu in position user3) =>

HOME | ABOUT | PRODUCT | CONTACT
Prod A
Prod B

Setting the above to position left and with the art-vmenu setting => Nothing shown on left panel.

Removing art-vmenu the above shows as block and not as vertical menu.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding of the term "vertical menu" and block content.

Cheers

Hello, i have the same problem and still doesnt work. :(

Thanks for help

I think Vertical Menu ONLY works as part of Main Menu. So if PRODUCTS is in main menu, clicking that tab will open up Vertical Menu on sidebar. ONLY PROD A, PROD B etc shown .... HOME etc not shown.

Btw, having a sub-category will give you a red x.

This is duplication and meaningless.

What I (and all on this thread) want is ability to have a TRUE VERTICAL MENU.

Creating vertical-menu with position left (without art-vmenu Module Class Suffix) gives a "vertical menu" using Block Styles/Content formats - not satisfactory results.

Any other workarounds?

Cheers

Hi, I am interested in helping here but not entirely sure I understand the problem! Does anybody with this problem have an online site that they can post a link to?

A few points:

I have never had a problem with the vertical menu working once the art-vmenu module class suffix has been applied. I don't believe we are looking for a workaround we are just looking to get your system configured correctly.

Don't put a space in front of art-vmenu.

The vertical menu does not have a problem with multiple levels and I have never seen the red x.

The module that you apply art-vmenu to must be of type mod_mainmenu. ie don't apply it to a 3rd party menu.

There is no link as such between a horizontal menu in user3 and a vertical menu with the art-vmenu module class suffix. The only reason menus will appear when you click on particular links is if you configured joomla to do that.

Sorry if that is no help at all but a link to an online site with the problem would help a bit.

I have had the same problem like all of you. I even had the red crosses at some point when I tried to solve this problem by just doing things, and basically wasn't getting anywhere.

I have now however solved it: it turned out that I had put art-vmenu suffix in the "menu class suffix" input field, in stead of the "module class suffix" input field .

Silly mistake has cost me 3 hours!

Thank you gentleman for the information.

Although the options in Joomla 1.6 Module Manager look slightly different than Joomla 1.5 - changing the module class suffix corrected the problem.

Much Appreciated!
