Hello,

I try to activate vertical menus in Wordpress 3.x. I see the vertical menus in Artisteer, but not in Wordpress. Can perhaps someone give me a hint how to get a vertical menu in Wordpress? Which way?

Kind regards,
Frank

In WP 3, go to Appearance > Menus.
Click on "Add Menu" in box on the right (may be a plus sign).
Give menu a name and click "Create Menu" and follow the rest of directions for menu creation right there in WP.
Then assign it to be Primary or Secondary under Theme Locations, left column.

Now, go to Appearance > Widgets, drag Navigation Menus to the widget area, select Source and save.

I have created my WP template with horisontal and vertical menu. After exporting (.zip) there is note in Appearance > Menus > Theme Location that "Your theme supports 1 menu. Select which menu you would like to use". Why so? How do I get Secondary Menu?

I selected in export options "pages" as it shuold be, so I really dont know what to do more.
WP admin shows on the widget area a warning: Cannot use a scalar value as an array in /home/tervisli/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Tervislikettevotlus/library/widgets.php on line 41

What does it mean?

The Primary menu is for your horizontal menu. You can still create as many menus in the WordPress Menu panel as desired. Whichever menu you select for your Primary menu will automatically be in the horizontal menu you created with Artisteer.

To use your Vertical menu, you actually have to go to the Widgets Page in your Dashboard, and drag the Vertical Menu widget to the space in the sidebar you want it. It will give you a dropdown option to choose from displaying Pages, Categories, or a specific menu you created within the WordPress Menu Panel.

I'm not sure why you are getting the warning, but it sounds like maybe a plugin issue or some bad coding and not Artisteer related.

I still don`t get it. I can`t separate pages from horisontal and vertical menus. Pages I add to custom menu, will appear on the horisontal menu as well.

I think it is the problem witk Artisteer template export, because on the WP menus page there is "Your theme supports 1 menu..."

You can create as many menus as desired within the Menu Panel in Wordpress. You only assign one of the menu's you create to the Primary Menu Field (which is your horizontal menu bar). It says that it just supports one menu, because it's talking about the one horizontal menu you have. The other menus created in that section can be used in your Vertical Menu Widget or your Custom Menu widget in the Widgets Panel.

Here's a step-by-step to hopefully alleviate confusion:
1. Go into your Wordpress Menu Panel
2. Create a New Menu and title it horizontal (or whatever you want). Make this menu how you want your horizontal menu to appear. You can choose from pages, categories, or custom links. You can drag the items up or down in the order you want them to appear, and you can create subitems by dragging menu items over to the right slightly underneath the menu item you want to be their "parent"
3. Once you are happy with your menu, save it, and assign it to your Primary Menu.
4. Now, create a new menu and title it something else. Make this how you want your vertical menu to appear by following the same procedure above.
5. Save your menu.
6. Go to your Widgets Panel and drag the Vertical Menu Widget where desired.
7. Choose the new menu you just created for it to pull it's tabs from.

Ok, I did all that. Now I have a next question. There is possibility to add and separate different pages to different menus, but what about new posts? Can I add somehow these (written as new post, not new page) to horisontal menu?

You can always add to or edit any of your menus easily. Just go back into your Menu Panel under Appearance, choose which menu you want to edit, and add or remove pages or categories. If you want to link to a specific post, then use the custom link option, and put in the url to your post and give it a label that you want.

Ok, I`ll try to explain it that way.
When I click on the header, then I can see the page with blog posts. But there is no such button on horisontal menu (like `home`). So when I visit some other page, I cant`return easily to the posts page.
Do I have problem with theme export, some settings or is it wordpress issue?

You can add/remove Home button from Export options in Artisteer.

Go to Theme Options under Appearance in your Dashboard, and you can check whether to show the Home button on your menu or not.
