It appears that the Gmaps module becomes incompatible with IE 6 and themes made with Artisteer.
I think it is because of the PNGFIX the markers are png files with transparent backgrounds and when the IE6 css is applies it grays out the entire map. This makes.
Let me know if there is a work around for this or if there is something the IE6 css can contain to fix this issue.

Try clearing out your theme registry on every page load and see if that changes anything. The google maps module also has 682 open issues, perhaps going through the issue list you could find a solution.
Having theme registry rebuilt on every page load could cause a huge performance hit on your site if you have high traffic, but it would be useful in debugging. Also, could you provide a link to your website? Not sure how to properly answer this question without an example.
