Ok so I got the window when I fired up artisteer today that there was an upgrade available, so I downloaded it, installed it, and used my license key from the original purchase to activate it. No problem. But now, where are my old templates? Or actually, how do I get 2.4 to use them? I can see them in the folder they were saved in, but when I click the file/open icon in artisteer, I can navigate to the folder they are in, but artisteer is looking for a .artx file and only the template folder and an images folder come up as options. Confused and hoping I didn't lose the ability to use my old template....

When you create a template in artisteer, you must SAVE the template as an artx file (Control + S or using the SAVE function in the main menu) if you wish to save the template design for future editing. If you only exported your created template without saving it, you're out of luck.

If you did save the file as an artx file, it would show up in your default artisteer templates folder (created by default by the program when you save a template as an artx file.

Oh crap, that is SO BAD!!! I think.

I have an Artisteer Templates folder, and all my attempts including the final are in there, but when I navigate there I can old see the top file folder with an images folder in it, and artisteer is not seeing an artx file within them. I mean, I worked on this for days. I saved and saved and saved while I was working, and I didn't knowingly change any save as settings. When I was ready, I exported. You are telling me that Artisteer exports the orginal file and not a copy? Even though I saved and saved it before? This is real real bad and if this is the case its a huge flaw in artisteer. It should not even be possible for you to lose your artx file when you export, it should stay in artisteer as a backup.

Holy crap if I can't reopen my old template now I will never promote artisteer. My mind is totally boggling.

whew ok, I found an artx file on my computer, and its close to the final design so I'm over my panic. But its not under the artisteer template folder. Its in a drupal folder I created. I'm still basically ticked off over this though. Why is this not clarified in a startup tutorial or warning when you start the program the first time? I had NO idea that I needed to verify some things before I saved or exported. For something that important it should be plastered all over the place.

Like any program, you are responsible for saving your file, and choosing the location where it's saved. That's not exclusive to Artisteer.

Did you search you drive(s) for all .artx files?

Odds are you did not save them where you think you did..

Yep, Artisteer is like most Windows programs in that it remembers the last folder you saved something in - so if you change the folder location, the next time you do a save it saves to that new location...

Yes, it is good practice to move .artx file to safe place before updating Artisteer.

Learn how to use your computer and your programs and you won't have these problems..... just sayin'.
