With the addition of Flash in headers it would be nice to try but I have never done any flash work. Does anyone know of any free or low cost flash editors they would work with Artisteer? Not ready to drop any more money into web at this time but would love to play with it.

One that comes to mind would be Xara(pronounced Zah-rah). I've never used it myself but I've been wanting to. Now that we can import flash into Artisteer templates, I think I just might give it a try :)

@Dave - I'm a Xara user and it is not a flash program, but a brand that has a range of products. The flagship is a vector graphics program called Xara Extreme Pro. They have a number of other programs including a 3D web graphics program and a menu maker.

Dave, as I know that you are the pro here I say this with all due respect. Xara may not be Adobe Flash but it does have some basic animation features. Perhaps enough to create animations in the header.

If you go to http://xara.com/us/products/xtreme/tutorials-demos/
and scroll down to "The Internet" subtitle and then of course click on "Flash Animation" you'll see tut for it.

Also from their website:

# You can add a link to the whole animation now (useful for banners)
# Hi-res photos are automatically resampled down to maximum size used in the animation (at 100%), no need to manually optimize any more
# In Flash animations, you can make a click re-direct to another part of the animation
# Bitmap blur/sharpen supported natively as a Flash transform (i.e you can tween photo blur values)
# You can now also tween saturation and color temperature
# Direct page (Flash Animation) resize by dragging on bottom edge or right edge
# Ability to control JPEG compression for all photos in a Flash file
# You can now jump to frames on a mouseover (as well as clicks) so you can control animation on mouseover
# Flash movies now restart on pop-ups or mouseover pop-ups each time the pop-up appears (rather than carry on from where it last was)
# Improved tweening error messages.

Hi Dave,

Yes of course you are correct - but I never think of the Xara range as being a core Flash product...

And I'm certainly not the pro, I help out where I can & ask questions when I need them answered !

All the best, Dave

Firestarter is good for basic Flash and Xara does have basic Flash as well. I have both and actually use them more than my Flash CS4 program because of the simplicity. I you Google Flash, you will find some simple basic Flash programs that may just give you exactly what you need. I would start with the Coffee Cup Firestarter though.

For basic Flash it is really hard to beat Coffe Cup Firestarter. While it is not free it is very inexpensive. Firestarter just like most of their products is a very easy to use and fairly effective application.

1. Aleo Flash Intro Banner Maker
2. Koolmoves
3. Firestarter

In that order.

www.swishzone.com

With enormous amount of built in effects this soft really kicks ass. You can try 30 days free fully working trial

It is also very cheap just 149$ for full version

Strongly recommended not only for beginners but also for professional designers as it can hold JavaScripts and has sophisticated vector tools. And it is still very easy to use.

I've been searching, but can't find a cool 'flash-like' editor I came across a few months back. All editing is done online and saved online and then you can export it to your hard drive.

I can't for the life of me remember the name (I think it was/is being developed by only one person).

It's also free. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

@cool,

That Koolmoves looks very interesting.

Some questions:

1) Do you need flash to use it - as in, is it a flash plugin, or a standalone product?

2) Can you create full websites with it, or only animations - i.e. logos, images, etc?

Thanks for posting the link.

Mark C.

1. Koolmoves is a standalone product.

2. Although it has some templates to create full blown web sites, I personally use it to create banners, strictly because of SEO reasons, and the fact that I prefer using a CMS to update my web sites (it's the easiest and quickest way).

In all, Koolmoves is very easy to use, although it has some irritating things, and I have found that you can create certain effects to your animations that you can't do in any similar software. Let me emphasize again, I don't recommend creating full blown flash sites.

@Mark C
Like Nick is saying... you can create websites with it but there is better software available for this kind of job.
Use it to create banners (fisheye effect is no problem for example) or text animations.
You can do a lot with it.
