Well that was a complete waste of time!

After working all weekend getting my blog template exactly how I wanted it, and really liking the result once I applied it, I then found that virtually every post and article I have written (around 100) would have to be reformatted for the new template.

This is because all the graphics do not resize themselves to the change in width of the new template, so more text now flows around them, and my headings, image captions, bulleted lists etc, are now all out of alignment.

The lesson to be learnt from this, for those wishing to apply a new template to an existing mature blog, is that you can change the 'look' of a template with new colours, new header and background images etc., successfully, but if you want to change the dimensions of a template, particularly the width, then be prepared for a lot of re-editing of previous posts.

I have now reverted to the original free blogger template, and I will now wait until the Easter break, when I have more time for editing, before having a go at my new template again.

Rock,

I think I ran into the very same problem. I fixed it all up then when I transferred it to my blogger site, I lost info and my Adsense doesn't show up right. I just bought this yesterday, too. It's the first programming thing I have every fallen for and I think it's really cool, but I have no idea how to use it now w/o messing up my website which I cannot really afford to have down.

Can you explain more about the reformatting process? Too bad I can't see your site. I am curious to see before/after.

@Rock: put them inside a <div> so that the width of the old articles will stay the same. Shouldn't take that long. Probably that you could even do that programmatically directly on the blogger templatel by looking at the date of the post but I don't know enough about that to tell you how.

However, I don't understand why you are saying that with the free template, the alignment is now OK. This is how it looks on my display at 120dpi (instead of the more usual 96dpi) and medium sized text:

This is the same for all the images in every posts excerpt the last one.

Personally, the older new look was much better than the new free one!
