Hi,

I quite like Artisteer, but it is quite expensive. Are there any serious alternatives out there (please no comments as hiring a developer is more expensive, I know that!)

"Artisteer, but it is quite expensive"

Expensive compared to what?

Expensive compared to purchasing one template, or compared to the time I want to use it for creating 5 basic templates.

Purchasing one template can be cheap, but the template isn't exclusive so other websites may have the exact same look and feel. To purchase a single, exclusive rights template though will run you about $30-100 depending on the complexity. You can create a custom, one of a kind template with artisteer or five custom, one of a kind templates or a million one of a kind templates with artisteer for $100. Thats a bargain. I know that for some people who only want ONE template, it doesn't seem to make much sense, but ultimately even a small business owner who only needs one template may want to change the look and feel of their site, or make small adjustments to design... for those it is infinitely more cost effective to purchase this software than it is to hire a designer every time they want to make a small change.

Artisteer is a money making machine for a web designer. If you want it for your hobby site, there are thousands of free templates out there, for any platform, CMS or static html web sites, whatever.

Artisteer pays for itself with the first web site project and some !

Artisteer constantly improves their product, and deserve every penny of it.

How much were you expecting it to be $5? I realize punishing success and spreading the wealth is the new trend, but this is just stpid! (Hey, ACORN will set you up I'm sure).

I agree with calsnoboarder: With this tool the user can create many templates, not just one. I think the price is fair.

After using it for a couple of days with DNN, however, I'm concerned that the developer may be spreading his/herself too thin, i.e. working on a Mac version before the Windows version is solid and bug-free.

We have many DNN issues right out of the box, and I read in the forums that other CMS's have multiple issues as well.

Jeez guys, I know the reasons, and I have heard them before... ok, let me ask it differently... without commenting on the price or anything, is there any tool that does what Artisteer does (and now don't all go "Artisteer is the only one with so much functionality").

I am just looking for alternatives, like joomlatemplatebuilder.com

You could try WPThemeBuilder. $10.00 to make one theme.

But for the record. I'm sticking with Artisteer, you can't beat if for the price, the ease of use and the freedom to create custom templates.

When are you buying a program, think how it will help you. If it is $130, like Artisteer, don't buy it if it will not bring $130 and more. For Artisteer, $130 is nothing. If I knew for Artisteer ago, I bought it ten times. Again, $ 130 is nothing. With Artisteer you can get even $4500, if you make themes and upload them to templatemonster.com. I have Standard Edition on 2 computers.

Now Artisteer 4.0 will come. I questioned support and they tell it isn't made yet. They saw that I could not make a profile for every possible CMSs, so they added an option to create their own profile of CMS. Artisteer burden will become a program like Visual Basic, that will just make it the most professional themes. ;-)
