So I cannot save a template and continue to work on it tomorrow and test its features/look with the current 2.3 Artisteer Demo?
What's the use?
Is there another tool out there that will allow me to work on a good demo template and save my progress?

Jacob,
You are free to export your template but cannot save the project file (.artx) for later revisions. The trial does not expire and is free.
If you want to save the .artx files and remove the watermark, then you will need to purchase an Artisteer license.

Thanks, I understood what you wrote but I'm questionning the fact that the demo holds hours and hours of features/layouts/buttons to explore and try... all in order to build the best tentative template possible for my needs... but since I cannot save I can't do much with it.
I can only achieve 10% of what I'd like my template to look like when using the demo... Then I have to start all over again.
I mean, there is no way I can possibly build a decent demo to show off and then buy the product and have it completed.

Hi,
I kind of agree with Jacob here. I worked on a template for some time to see to what extant Artisteer could go. Now, I'm satisfied but I'm gonna lose it. It's written in the user manual that watermarks will disappear after I purchase it. I exported it. Will Artisteer be able to open it again and eras the watermarks or is it too late ?

I think the reason for Artisteer not allowing people to save the .artx file was that there were a few people that would for a small fee convert the file to a non-demo branded template. Those few people ruined it for many other honest people.
I wrote software for many years and I understand what it is like to have your income stolen by people that think software should be free and are willing to steal it.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about it. Good point ! I guess I'm too honest to even think how to rip them off !

IMHO, a program as complex as this one does not serve potential buyers well if they can't save the project they are working on and come back to it.
Purchasers of this product are allowed to SELL as many templates as they wish. TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T OWN THE PRODUCT!
So I am wondering why Artisteer should be concerned about a "few" people who wish to pay AN ARTISTEER OWNER a couple bucks to convert a project file to a template.
How exactly is this a "rip-off"? A proper "rip-off" is PIRATING THE ENTIRE PROGRAM!!! (hello??)
Surely these "few" people are not going to each pay for 50 bucks worth of conversions - they might as well buy the product!
I was considering "ripping Artisteer off" by asking clients who have no idea what kind of template they want, to download the trial and use it to send me a concept template to work off of. I hadn't had the opportunity to actually do this before they removed the "save project" option.
However, I could still just have them take a screenshot of what they come up with.
All I'm saying is, give folks a chance to really play with the program as I did. I happily played with and SAVED dozens of templates with watermarks all over them. Installed them to test sites with watermarks all over them. Reopened the .artx files and played with them some more. I loved it! SO I BOUGHT THE PROGRAM! The STANDARD edition. And when my year's licence expires, I WILL BE RENEWING without a single whimper!
So, in closing, I submit to the "powers that be" at Artisteer:
A better option would have been to issue "trial licences", watermark the heck out of it, and shut the program down after 30-60 days.
Just my spin on things.

So I had an old version of the program, created a template for a client to test out the software and he approved of the design, paid me upfront for the site, and now I cannot bet back to it at all and was just about to spend the $129....
So now I have to recreated everything I did again since the trial of 2.3 will not even see what I had created in 2...
Ok folks, interoperability for stuff like this is what gets me hooked in to a program...
I liked the concept of Artisteer since so much of my design is spent on customizing but this is nuts that I have to start all over again.
PS: How about NFR's to resellers like myself who can then get this sold to customers to handle their own changes later on?

Hi Jacob,
You are free to export your templates in the free trial. If you keep Artisteer running you can explore the options for hours and hours without limitation other than the fact that you cannot save or remove the watermarks.
Once you have explored the program and if it meets your needs, you can purhase a license which will allow you to save and remove the Footnote & Watermarks.
You will not be able to save any of the work created when using the free trial version or remove the watermark from the exported files. The reason is, that when you purchase a license and enter the license key, Artisteer will restart to unlock the new features, losing any work that you have been working on.
Only once Artisteer has been activated will you be able to start saving your project (.artx) files.
Best regards,
Kevin P

I just purchased Artisteer. I created a blog theme before I purchased and exported it. Are you saying that now I need to go back in, recreate it, and then re-download it to get rid of the trial Marks? If so, will it be exactly the same because I love the theme I created in the trial mode.

Hi Kris,
Did you save your site as an ARTX file ?
This is akin to saving a document in Word as a .doc file.
Exporting your theme is not saving your work.
Hope this clears things up for you.
BTW: I have suggested to Artisteer that before exporting Artisteer warns ( or forces ) a save to an Artx file if it detects one has not been saved. Then this issue would not keep coming up time and time again - but nothing positive has come of this !
cheers Dave

Dear Dave-
No I did not save my template to and ARTX file.
Your suggestion to Artisteer would be helpful for those of us that are new to this site.
Thanks for you answer.

Dave,
That 'Do you wish to save this project for further use?'-type idea is a very good one.
I'll email Artisteer as well and suggest it.

Hi Folks,
Something has come up in the forums about exporting vs saving.
Newbies don't realise that when you export your theme it doesn't save a .artx file.
Perhaps you could add this in as a default, that when you click on 'Export' a pop-up will display asking you do you also want to save as a .artx file for further editing, with a link to the difference between exporting and saving in the FAQ Section of the site.
Regards,
Mark C

I have purchased artisteer and saved a theme to artx. Now when I try to open it I can see a proper thumbnail in the open dialog box but when it opens it looks like a simple artisteer theme. Nothing to do with what I saved! Anyone came across this problem?

@ George
You should contact Artisteer support with your saved .artx file.

Experiencing the same problem.
With Artisteer 3 standard edition.
Always when saving dot net nuke templates and reloading them - most of the template is lost...
Artisteer sucks!

@rau - there is no problem if you purchase the program - this is constantly over-stated and exaggerated on these forums - perhaps people from competing products are high jacking this Non-Issue!

Let me see...
I have tried the software and looks good. I cannot reopen my saved temp. I read many article about this.
IF
I will buy a license and save my temp, Could I reopen it, without losing any setup?
The license expiring after one year?

The real problem is that you figure all this out after having lost the work you were doing for hours. There really should be an clear explanation of this when starting the trial version. It's pretty annoying learning that the whole time you were hitting save while working, no message let you know you were saving bunk and that it was totally useless.Really, just letting people know this so that they don't think the program is buggy would be helpful.
Better communication and you'll avoid having to respond to these incessant posts...
On the demo version the save button is not available.
So how are you hitting save when there is no save button.

Lucky that I've read this thread about saving projects, otherwise I may also end up spending hours making my perfect template just to get pissed off at not being able to save it (and you are hopeful that I'll buy it?)
Surely by any marketing good practices, this is definitely not a good way for conversion.

I've purchased a new copy of the program Artisteer 3
The program works very well .. But I am having a little problem
It .. That when I save a file that you created .. Not open the form in which it was saved at all for the next

@ mohammad
It is a limitation of unauthorized cracked version of Artisteer.

All version used to save. Then some jerk set up a business of rendering peoples designs for $1.00 each.
All you had to do was use the demo version. Save your work. Then send it the joker and for a dollar you got your rendered theme back without a watermark.
This is why the demo does not save.
NO ONE would ever need to buy the software. Get it?
Anyway I'd be glad if you didn't buy. More money for the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
