How could I go about changing the main navigation menu so that there is an icon beside the text. Or just replace the text with an icon instead of the text. Pretty sure it can't be done within the program itself, but anyone know how to customize it in this way?

Artisteer supports placing icons in block headings, you should see how it is inserted there to get an idea.

Uh, can you elaborate on that one Gary? Or maybe missunderstood OP problem for mine.
In the main menu items I want to place a rss icon, but I am clueless as to how, well it is a quarter to six am, so thats mmy cheap excuse for that
I tried to be clever in Wordpress - create a new page and put into the title an link <a href + img> and leave the page blank, but it that just results in a misplaced icon 
So where in the template should I add this tiny bit of html, so it works?
