I've got a situation where i have a client that wants a wordpress theme that is just 1 column on the homepage and 2 columns for all interior pages.
Anyone have an idea how to tackle this one?

Yes, you can do it creating additional page templates.

You can use the plugin headspace.
You can define witch theme to use on different pages.

I just searched for this headspace plugin but only found a SEO one. Where can this be founr?

I checked out this Headspace plug-in and it's PERFECT for this. It's confusing when you look for it because its marketed as an SEO.
here's what you do...
Once it's loaded into Wordpress
--> click on "PlugIns" in left menu
You should see "HeadSpace" listed as a plugin
-->click on "settings" under Headspace
--> Select the "Pages" item
--> click on "advanced" in the lower right area
--> you will see the option for "Theme", with a drop-down
-->select your default theme for your pages from this drop-down
You are done setting it up.
Now, when you add a new page, you will see an area for your Headspace settings (for each specific new page)
--> click on the "advanced" in the lower right and you will then see the option to chose which theme you would like for that page.
It's really super easy.
