Installing a Local WordPress and Testing Artisteer Themes

I downloaded Artisteer last night, and I am impressed. Then I wandered over to this forum and see a certain level of frustration.

Much of that frustration comes from a new Artisteer user being unable to test the theme readily without uploading it to a server. However, it is possible to install WordPress to your Windows machine, and this site tells you how:

http://urbangiraffe.com/2005/05/22/installing-wordpress-on-your-own-windows-computer/

This involves putting the WAMP Server software (free, open source) on your computer, which puts Apache 2.2.11, MySQL 5.1.36, PHP 5.3.0 onto your Windows computer. It then tells you how to install WordPress onto your computer.

I did this. It requires a bit of careful attention and patience, but it does not require a lot of sophistication. So, give that a try, and I think you'll find your Artisteer experience much more rewarding.

Thanks Alan,

Good info. Personally I use XAMPP & have dozens of my clients sites sitting locally for testing ( mostly custom PHP sites).
XAMPP also has Mac and Linux versions

Also on the Mac there is MAMP

Hi Dave,

I never tried XAMPP, but I've heard good things about it. I used WAMP because the UrbanGiraffe website had hold-your-hand directions on how to set it all up and install WordPress.

They also show how to modify a WordPress theme by hand, and I plan on going through that, and also comparing themes from my freshly-purchased Home/Student edition of Artisteer.

I might blog about it in a couple of months when I've learned more.

Setting up a local WordPress or Joomla is easy.

Try following this

for locally setting up the server
http://www.albruna.nl/albrunablog/code/lokaal-opzetten-van-wordpress/
for locally setting up WordPress
http://www.albruna.nl/albrunablog/code/lokaal-opzetten-van-joomla/

this is all in dutch but if you try an online translation tool

you are probably able to follow it, besides there are pictures added to the blog postings which will help you.

Thanks for those links, Martin. The Google translator tool is better than I expected, and it was helpful to me as my languages are Spanish and English.

I like your site. You sound like a talented individual.

Can anyone tell me how to successfully install the Artisteer Standard on my Mac?

Hi Jenni,

Have you downloaded it and attempted to install it ?

It is just a standard .dmg file, the same as most mac install programs.

Also can I suggest two things:
1) Don't start new questions on the end of an old thread.
2) There is a mac forum, best post there, then you are more likely to get appropriate feedback.

all the best, Dave

I can simply install it on Mac by double clicking the installation file.

There is also a WordPress plugin that allows you to preview your blog with any theme in your themes folder:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-preview/

I use this on my themes site where I have a different colour variant, you can see it in use, click on any 'preview the theme' links
