I want to create a 2 column site. I need to design my left column so that it is wide enough to embed a video of 640x380. How can I make sure the column is 640 px wide? I do not see this option.

Design a theme 960 pixels wide with 2 columns. Then go under layout tab and set the coulm to be 33% of the width of the body.

I think you can check your column width from following styling rule in your style.css:
.art-contentLayout .art-content

position:relative;
width:655px;
}
