Hi I am a beginner of this and I have read a lot in the forums, but I can't figure out how to upload my themes to wordpress. From what I have read I should use Filezilla but I have no idea how that works. What file should I upload and what should I do to get it into my wordpress blog? What is the host and username, port in Filezilla?

I would be really glad if someone could tell me step by step what to do when I should upload the theme to wordpress.

Thanks

Hi Caroline,

Do you have access to your WordPress admin area ?

In the Appearance section you will see an option to Add New Themes.
And you will see an upload link near the top.
Use this to upload an exported theme from Artisteer after you have exported it in zip format.

Or if you prefer you can FTP the complete Folder using Filezilla to the folder:
www.carolines_domain/wp-content/themes
So if your theme was called mytheme, the complete path would be:
www.carolines_domain/wp-content/themes/mytheme
and you should see all the php files and an images folder inside that.

Hi and thanks for your answer. I cannot see the add new themes in my blog. I chose appearance and then themes? If so, I can only change to another theme from what wordpress have to chose from. I have paid so I should be able to change themes.

I really want the artisteer theme that I created.

No it doesn't look like that. I only have themes, extras and edit css. I have to contact wordpress, since I have no idea why I don't have that.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Caroline,

It could be a permissions thing ?
When you say you have paid for it, what do you mean - WordPress is open source. Or do you mean your hosting ?

Also would be good to get your wordpress version -is visible on Dashboard.

I have read on wordpress now and I think that I have wordpress.com, and should have wordpress.org. Is that correct? It is in wordpress.org that I can add themes etc?

Ah yes, that did cross my mind....
But as you started talking about filezilla and uploading I assumed you were hosting your own domain...

Do you own a domain ?

If not you will need to register one and then find a host to locate it.

All the best, Dave

I am getting one now :-)

Does it matter which host I choose? If they support wordpress, then I can upload themes from artisteer?

It should not matter....

Every hoster will have facilities for PHP and MySQL.

I am in Australia& host some of my web sites in the US and some in Australia.

In the US I use OCS Solutions who I have had very good support from....
http://www.ocssolutions.com/hosting.php

It is a very exciting time getting a web site up and running. But it can be very frustrating too. But hang in there and I'm sure with many avenues of support you will be up and running soon.

All the best, regards Dave

Sorry forgot to mention...

Some hosters will have a facility called Fantastico.

This allows you to install many add on programs ( including Word Press ) with the click of a button !

So worth while checking this out before proceeding.
