Page Template w/o Header

For example, I would like a home/landing page w/menu only and all other pages with header, menu, sidebars, widgets etc. I have exported a theme with no header, added the code snippet to the page.php file, renamed and uploadeded to my theme. I am able to select the page template, but it still displays the header that was designed with the default theme.
