Hello
I would like to suggest that it is a great idea to try to import an existing template not made with Artiseer because I have used a Template for a time and I would like to improve it using Artiseer, which I have regularly and with satisfaction purchased
Thanks
Markus

Agreed... to open & edit non-Artisteer templates would be a great enhancement for users who already have a template that they want to improve.. i am creating a Joomla! site for a small business, it would be great for them to be able to buy your software so they can make design changes as well as content changes!

Every author have his/her own coding style then how it is possible for Artisteer to comply with all of them.

Artisteer should at least be able to import plain HTML pages, as any WYSIWYG editor can do. Converting them to Joomla or Wordpress would be another great advantage, that something like Dreamweaver can not do.

Agree with most posters.

Importing basic HTML and somehow mapping it to Artisteer would be GREAT.

I want to agree with everybody, even with Garry, but...

I still think that you can build into Artisteer the ability to at least import templates that adhere to a specific standard. For example; JA_Purity coming with Joomla installation should not change that much, so allow the import of that one and every other template adhering to at least the JA_Purity(using Joomla as my point of discussion) coding style or whatever you referred to Garry. Even if things then comes in a bit skew or out of place maybe allow the person to move things back into place using Artisteer.

Just a thought...

Artisteer is a great product. This enhancement will make it tops.

While importing non-Artisteer templates would indeed be nice, I am afraid that Garry is right: keep on dreaming...

I only have a basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and Joomla, but I think that this is simply (near to) impossible.

I think what people are asking for here is a "Reverse Artisteer"! It would be very difficult to take a pre-designed template and open it in a product like Artisteer. For example, what would happen to things like multiple module styles that Atristeer doesn't support!

Artisteer is so easy to use anyway, I would have thought it just as simple to recreate a template that someone may like. I could never see the logic of buying and downloading a template that then has to be changed in a product like Artisteer. The amount of manual re-coding required to make it function after going through the Artisteer editing would probably be far greater than manually re-coding the original template.

Many Joomla users ask such a question often: How can I modify the logo image/ title style/ Module positions of XXXX template?

This means, editing and improving an existing Joomla template is widely needed by thousands of users!

I strongly suggest the author of Artisteer to add such a feature: Import and Edit existing Joomla templates!

I don't think it is impossible. You can let Artisteer recognize files via the XML installer file, and recognize styles via the CSS files.

Then, the user can change whatever they want to change, and then Export/Save their changes to a new template. (you can also add a new feature to allow Save As another new name for the modified template).

Thanks.

Not all the code had to be imported... just the basic frames. If you can export that and the images, menus that you created before, it would help you make the transition from other softwares to Artisteers.

You know what would really be a dream come through... a joint venture between Joomla, wordpress and others with Artisteers! Joomla CMS with Artisteers design capabilities would make them unstoppable!!

If importing is so difficult, then at least include the default templates that come with joomla, wordpress, etc., so they can be modified.

Even if we could be able to import an ARTISTEER template back in again to make more changes would be awesome.

Messing with the css takes forever if you don't know what you're looking for.

my 2 cents! :-)

Personally, I think that you could be on to something with the XML & CSS files. Thinking about it, your browser has to be able to parse these files regardless of the author's particular writing style...

The code that joomla uses to import templates is 'open source'.... everyone that has a copy of joomla on thier server has the building blocks to start with to solve this problem...

The first problem, (and perhaps the biggest problem), that I can see, ( as a potential purchaser of this product ), is getting creating an executable .exe code that will emulate the php code that joomla uses when installing templates.

Just my 2 cents :-X
