I was very pleased to see how easy artisteer worked and that one could export the site in one or more types of cms platforms.

With a little time I had build a beautiful site for my new business. Artisteer was a good investement I thought. However, then I tryed to export the website in wordpress and was terrified to see that the ugly stuff of wordpress (like 'categories') suddenly had repleced my design.

I would very much like to see this in an update because now I feel a bit disapointed.

Hi Johan,

I think you are misunderstanding how CMS's/Blog engines work.

The artisteer program creates a template, which is like a basic framework for your Wordpress site. The vast majority of the content is controlled within your wordpress admin area...

It is best to get a good understanding of how Wordpress works ( they have excellent docs on their site ), or get a good book. I have a number of Wordpress books, but found 'WP for dummies' very good...

I think you are trying to use your Wordpress installation as website instead of blog, if yes you can do it very effectively and easily.

First of all create your business website pages on your Wordpress admin going Pages-> add new pages.

Then set a static page as your home page going Settings-> reading-> Set Front page displays to a static page selecting from drop down.

Hi Johan,

For a number of years, I have developed client sites using Dreamweaver. I have experimented with Joomla and Drupal as website development tools, but I have rejected them for one reason or another. When a client has asked to be able to edit page contents, I have installed SnippetMaster (http://www.snippetmaster.com/index.php).

I have used WordPress for blogs, but I recently discovered Artisteer and started experimenting with WordPress as a Website development tool. Based on my experience to date, I think WordPress and Artisteer make a good Web development package. In order to make sure the CSS and XHTML validate, you have to be careful about the content and plugins you add, and you have to backup your WordPress database on a regular basis. Here are some WordPress plugins that I have found to be useful: Add to Header, Akismet, Contact Form 7, Dean's FCKEditor For Wordpress, GreyBox Integrator, Wordpress Automatic Upgrade, WordPress Database Backup, and WP-Sticky.

I developed the latest version of my personal website using Artisteer and WordPress: http://pittstop.com/. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm satisfied so far.

Regards,

Bill

hi its easy to change category title etc via widgets page, wordpress is simple to use as a website even without being a coding expert. As soon as artiseer gives us a little more control, on placement of menus and search box, and custom on page home page widgets / info panels it and wordpress will be the dreamteam web development tool.

Johan,

The block alignment for Artisteer created Wordpress templates can be managed by either Artisteer or WordPress. If you want Artisteer to manage the positioning, do the aligning in Artisteer and make sure that you don't have any Widgets in the sidebar in Wordpress.

If you have any Widgets in the sidebar in Wordpress, then Wordpress will do the positioning of the blocks via the Widgets sidebar.
