I'm having category issues too.... I've installed the category widget on the side bar of this website - http://divinitypersonified.com/ but when I click on any of the categories (using success as an example) - it gives me the following link http://divinitypersonified.comsuccess/ (note it's somehow missing a slash between .com and success... )

Does the same thing happen with the default theme as well?
If so, then I would investigate your permalinks settings.

Are you using categories widget which is inserting incorrect URL or using just a text widget to display categories
If you are using categories widgets and it is displaying wrong URL the problem is with your custom URL settings on your wordpress admin, you should see your permalink settings

I was using a widget and finally figured out how to fix the permalink to display it correctly. Thanks for helping
