What file do you open in WYSIWYG editors?

Everyone seems to have a different opinion as to whom they like best, but all I know is EVERY program I downloaded that others "had success with", the page is so confusing and is not WYSIWYG. What file am I supposed to open up that controls the layout of the overall theme?
