I have a client that fell in love with one of my templates made with Artisteer. The problem is, he wants to sell t-shirts on the site. Is this possible - and how is the best way to do this? Should I use Joomla or WordPress? What kind of shopping cart etc. Finding it difficult to edit html so that it looks as nice as the generated templates.

I too have this problem BUT I'm looking into buying Digishop from iJoomla.com
As the website name indicates, you'll be using joomla. The good news is that you don't have to mess with the HTML or any of that. I think this might be a good solution for you.

Please let me know if it does work out :)

Might I make a suggestion? Or maybe a plug. :P
In the next week or so I will be releasing a new E-Commerce component for Joomla! 1.5. At the moment you can only download it as a standalone application.
Maybe you can give it a shot, see what you think, and when the Component is available, you can use that.

Hi Danno. When do you plan on releasing the component?

Hi Dave,

Hopefully within the next 7+ days mate. The installer is just been drawn up now as I speak so shouldn't be too long more before it gets tested etc. Once we are happy that everything is in where it should be and it installs and configures like it should, we will then make it available.

Keep an eye on the Support Forums at http://dantocart.com/forums/ for announcements.

Cheers,
Danno

I'm setting up an online store using an artisteer template, joomla base, and virtuemart shopping cart. So far it works wonderfully. They all install combined nicely, and after that it's just a matter of tweaking it to your specifications.

Hope this helps!

Virtuemart is a good choice but a few bugs and the support is non existant. Used it myself for a while.
This is why I am releasing DantoCart as a Component.

I am confident it does mate.

Try the Standalone demo - http://dantocart.com/dantocart/admin/index.php

Username: Demo
Password: demo

The saving of changes are locked so you can't do any saves etc. But it will give you a general idea.

Obviously Danno found an e-commerce solution wasn't easy to support - that link is dead. So let's try Petty's offering... oh oh, another dead link.....

Why do people post stuff like this?

For WordPress I have long been using WP eStore Plugin from TipsAndTricks-HQ.com - been using it for several years and it does a lot at a very affordable price and has several plugins for added features.

I like HikaShop too, though it takes some getting used to. And it's not free if you need more than the basics. Another good alternative for both Joomla and WP is ECWID. Used it a couple of times and just doing another in it. Simple for clients to edit their own products (something you don't want to get hooked into as a developer).

ECWID has a component/widget for Joomla/WP that requires almost no setup - works very well.

Wootique
Price: Free!

Wootique is a flexible, highly customisable eCommerce theme for WordPress. Boutique has been designed from the ground up to take advantage of all of WooCommerce core features whilst delivering fantastic customisability.
Unique Features

WooCommerce Goodness
As you’d expect, Wootique makes full use of all of WooCommerce features. We’ve painstakingly married theme and plugin to provide a seamless front-end experience. Every single one of WooCommerce widgets has been lovingly styled to match the beautiful design, as has each key component of the plugin such as the product categories, product descriptions, cart, checkout and user account sections. Read all about the benefits of WooCommerce here.

Customisability
Our number 1 goal with the design of Wootique was to make the theme a great solution for any online store. From the theme options page you can easily stamp your brands own unique style on the theme by changing the background colour, adjusting the menu and footer or adding a background image. The rest of the minimalist design lends itself to almost any colour or style!

Featured Slider
The homepage features a nifty css3 / jQuery powered slider. The slider rotates through your stores featured products and is flexible enough to contain as many products as you want to throw at it. Better yet, we’ve used some css3 animations to ‘flip’ the product imagery revealing further information. Nifty!

Custom Homepage
Aside from the slider you can customise your homepage with content from a specified WordPress page. There’s also an archive of your recent products and of course a widgetised sidebar.

Custom Widgets
The theme has 1 widgetized sidebar (which can be moved from the right of the content to the left) and 4 footer regions, and as always comes with 8 custom Woo Widgets PLUS a multitude of WooCommerce widgets too. Widgelicious!
