Hi I am looking to only place blocks on the front page, on another template I would be able to do that by creating a new page that is an exact copy of page.tpl.php renaming it page-front.tpl.php and deleting the print content section. Can I do this in Artisteer created pages? and if so how?

Yes you can do that but make it mandatory that you copy all the code and CSS associated with it

Inside page.tpl.php:
<?php if (!$is_front): print $content; ?>

Have you tried the frontpage module available at drupal or drupalmodules.com.
It will allow you to stop content on the frontpage, plus it does a lot more.
ie. Custom content for certain roles if you wish.

No core hacks or cutom pages required.
