In Drupal, it takes the buttons that artisteer creates and uses them for tabs. I'd rather make tabs that are different than the buttons found in other places. Is there a way to edit the tabs themselves? (By tabs, I don't mean the secondary links, but actual tabs on certain pages, like profile pages)

Firstly use the Artisteer tabs export as Drupal theme and then go to the code of tab, it might be an image that is used as tab and you can add a new image(tab) in images folder and replace the name of image in code(where you need it changed )
