Do you have any suggestion on how is the simplest way to obtain a special Header effect like in http://demo.joomlaplates.net/ Elegance template (I'm speaking about image backround in header position on the left)

Garry is correct, but to be more clear what they have done on both of those sites is created a portion of background image that matches the top header image so that it gives you the illusion it is one large header stretching from edge to edge. This can easily be done with Artisteer and Photoshop or GIMP.
