I'll echo what other people have said and add some comments of my own.
More sidebar options are definitely a necessity, as well as easier editing of sidebars.
I recently needed the ability to have one wide sidebar at the top and bottom of the page, and two narrow sidebars in the middle (see http://www.rjhoward.com for finished product).
Although I was able to do it, it took hours because of the way the sidebars are built in the Artisteer-generated Wordpress templates. They are built in such a way that a separate sidebarx.php file is needed for each sidebar; then you have to edit every file that references the sidebars (e.g., page.php and several others) to add the additional sidebars.
My experience is that you should only need one sidebar.php file, no matter how many sidebars you have. This would make it much easier to make manual sidebar changes.
