This is because templates created with Artisteer are not comaptible with Joomla 1.0.x, only 1.5.x

Folks.. I'm fairly competent at computer issues, I've exported the template (in standard template form, not wordpress), and zipped it, uploaded it and get the
Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package...
there has to be an xml setup file in the zip file, and unless i'm missing something, there isn't one created by artisteer. I'm running Jommla 1.5
thanks

hi, Dalton,
I'm new to artisteer, I just bought it - Idon't have problems uploading. I export as a folder, then zip it, and upload it in Joomla 1.5.9.

Dalton,
Artisteer is aware that Joomla does not like the zip program built into it. They are working on resolving it.
Export your template as a folder instead, then either FTP the folder to your sites templates folder or use another program to zip the folder up and then install it.

I have installed the trial version and I get the same error "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package."
I have used winrar, winzip, 7zip to zip the template files, but I am still having the installation problem.
I use Joomla 1.5.9

Hello, those getting this error, if you save as a folder, and you open this folder, do you have an XML-file in the root of that folder called templateDetails.xml?
If YES, then zip the folder, open the zip file and check again that the xml file is in the root folder.
If it still doesnt work, check permissions in Joomla? Can you download a template from the web and install?
If YES, then I dont know ;)
If NO, then it could be a permission problem in Joomla.
If NO for finding the xml file in the folder, make sure that you dont get any error when saving template in Artisteer, and that it is finished exporting before you zip the folder....
Just a few ideas.... Have just used Artisteer for 4 hours so far so... ;)

I have and still have that problem.
I found that saving as folder, then open folder and delete the readme.txt and open the template.xml and delete the readme txt line and save. Then zip it all up and upload in your joomla back end. This works for me every time.
Still gotta love this program.

So does this mean that after saving the artisteer files as a folder that I have to take all of the files within each of the sub-folders and add it to a zip file? I have probably 40 or so subfolders and some of them also have subfolders, and each one appears to have 2 or 3 files in it? So do all of these files go into the subfolder.

Used Vista to zip the folder works like a dream

Tom;
Save the original template as a file not as a zip. When you have your file folder and with Winrar installed on your computer, right click on the folder and select add archive and that's it. Your template upload is going to be moth as cotton. I expend a lot of hours daily in this software believe me when I say "is great" always have a solution, try what i share with you a post back the result. Is all about logic.

Robert

@ lydia
Try excluding the .artx file while exporting the template from Artisteer.
