The customizable column layouts is really great, but I'd love to see it extended further.
Using the excellent iNovi Wordpress theme (http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/inove), how about adding Widget locations at the top and bottom on the side? iNovi labels them North, South, East and West corresponding to Top, Bottom, Right, and Left respectively.
The idea is that at the top of the double-column on the right is widget block spanning the two columns. Then below that are the elft and right sidbars. Below those is a bottom widget block spanning the two columns.
This makes for a VERY flexible layout.
