PLEASE somebody help me. I have been trying to fix this problem all day. I created a beautiful theme this morning. However, when I uploaded it to wordpress, my options of adding recent posts and blogroll are not there. I can't add either one of them. I have tried re-doing the template 3 times- one with no placement of blocks, the other with placements. Same thing everytime.

I tried replacing the theme function and sidebar codes with generic ones, but my sides look crappy, or my site won't load at all.

What do I have to do to be able to put my blocks where ever I want them in my sidebar? Thanks in advance!

This question gets answered at least once a month.

1. LEARN WORDPRESS AND HOW IT WORKS.
2. LEARN WHAT THE SIDEBAR IS AND HOW WIDGETS WORK

That said, Artisteer creates default functionality in the sidebar(s), adding a Category block, a Pages block, a Search block etc.

If you upload that theme and you have no POSTS or no PAGES in your blog, then nothing is going to show up in those areas! Add pages, add categories with posts and they will magically appear.

If you decide you are going to add widgets to your sidebar, you need to understand that the sidebar is DYNAMIC. Once you ADD a widget to the sidebar, Wordpress figures you don't like the default sidebar and that is why you are adding the widgets you want there. So, if your search block or your pages bloc disappears from the sidebar after you add a text widget (or any other widget), that is what Wordpress is SUPPOSED to do. Just add the sidebar widgets you want (search, categories and pages are all widgets that you can add to the sidebar, in any order you want)

Well here's hoping I don't get yelled at but I can't figure out what is happening.

1. I do not have any widgets turned on. It says:
You are using 0 widgets in the sidebar.

If I load the default WordPress template, I see all of the items in the sidebar as I would expect to.

If I load my Artisteer template, I do not see anything in the sidebar.

2. If I change over to widget mode. I do not see an Add link for either Links or Meta. All other widgets have an add link. I think this is the problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

It sounds like you may have a widget active from another theme.

Go to the URL below and download the widget-reset plugin. It will reset all plugins to the turned off state.

The fact that you don't see an "add" link means that the widget was turned on from a previous theme. When you add a new theme you should turn off all widgets before activating it because the widget ID's change and Wordpress gets confused a bit.

Here's the link...

Hope that helps.
