I don't know that it's any better, but what I do is export the folder to a new folder name and then just copy/paste the needed files in the original folder inside my dreamweaver. I frequently make alternate block styles and just need the four images generated, so I rename them in the new folder and drag them up to the folder I want them in. Then I delete the latest exported folder.
