Customizing the WordPress Themes

Hi Folks,

I have been looking at Artisteer and I must say that I am impressed.
One question though.

Is it possible to customize the templates that are used for the WordPress themes.

Let me give you an exmple. I have links to legal text that I put at the bottom of each of my blogs. It’s the same text and links for every blog. Is there somewhere that I can modify so that this gets added?

I investigated this a bit by myself but could not find an answer. I did a search on the text “created by Artisteer” and found it in two .html files (in the libraries folder).

I tried testing changes here by adding a line at the bottom of the theme – however that didn’t work. Obviously I’m on the wrong track.

Could someone let me know if what I would like to do is possible?

I would like to be able to add my own code for other areas in the blog (such as the header) as well.

Thanks,

David.

You can edit the 'assembly' files that Artisteer uses when creating and exporting the Wordpress themes.

Look in the Program files/Artisteer folder and snoop around a bit. you'll find a style.css and footer.php and header.php file that you can edit.

Before doing any editing, make backups of these files. If you break it, I'm not responsible!

Do not remove anything that looks remotely like code, for example:

{ footer }

In some instaces you will need to edit after the export, no matter what you do.

Thanks Marc... With a little experimentation I got into the right area.

G`day,

I did the same thing to save editing every template with the same info ... now if I could only change the "Contact" info to mine it`d be shweeet ... I think that`s in the xsl or xml files somewhere ... is it possible (more to the point .. is it ADVISABLE) to edit these files also? Don`t wanna break it :*) or do anything against TOS :-/

Also be good if the "dates" shown in the sidebar was current date not the same 2008 dates, I change these to the day I create the theme/template ... easy way to keep track.

All in all, this is likely the best purchase I`ve made and V2BETA kicks some serious e-butt ... look forward to more updates :-{}

yikes

You could replace the 'footer' code with your own bylines and contact info, and I would recommend you include the links to Wordpress as their GPL requires.

Artisteer does NOT require that their link remain on the template or themes you create

Marc,
You're doing a great job here helping folks. Just one thing on this one though, it is not a requirement of WordPress that you include a WordPress link in the footer.

They do state that appreciate the link, that the program is free and its there main way of marketing but it's not required. That said, it is good WordPress karma.
