It would nice to see the forums here at Artisteer go to something more robust like PHPBB or SMF.

The users here could have profiles, there would be a search feature, you could keep much better track of all your posts, subscribe to a post etc...

This would also help to eliminate double posting about the same issues that users are having.

Yes a search feature would really be nice.

This is a nice program and as things develop there are going to be more and more questions.

Yes i agree, features such as sticky posts regarding the most
frequent questions, and i'm sure they wouldn't have any problem
finding moderators from the community here.

Yes, I also second that.
Particularly I miss the 'search', 'edit post' and 'delete post' :-(

I am wondering if we can get clickable links here in the forum or at least have the [link] BB code added? -- thanks.

An RSS feed would be great... takes way too long to surf all the pages to see the new posts... let me subscribe to the RSS feed, and i'm always in the loop.

That's a great idea!

I think now more than ever, these forums are in need of some kind of upgrade inclsuing these features:

- stickies, username, password and login, email posts, favorites, ability to edit a post, different languages, RSS, notification of a new post etc...

this is all possible with free open source software that can install in 5 minutes such as SMF, PHPBB or Kuena for Joomla.

I've talked to Artisteer about this. They say it won't happen. This forum is tied into their back end CMS systems, as well as development environment.

Atleast that is what they told me just prior to the 2.0 release.

What do I know? I just answer questions.

Marc, thanks for the insight, that's too bad, I just think it could be so much more dynamic and efficient. Oh well. I won't beat this dead horse any more.

This is the prefect place to post that my wish did come true for all the features I wanted in an Artisteer Help forum -- a new user group / forum is now online and we just settled on a logo and design for the new Artisteer Help site! which is running the powerful PHPBB 3 forums software.

Here are only a few of the features out of many you will have:

Syntax Highlighting
User Based Polls
Smilies/Emoticons
User Profile / Avatars
User Signatures
Live Links
Users Online List
Subscribed Topics
Email notification of post answered
Friends/Foe List
Bookmarks / Favorites
Topic Stickies
Advanced BB Code
Personal Messaging system

I so agree with this one, I prefer that much more than email updates. I love being able to use RSS feeds to keep me up to date with the products I use. They should build a news/updates feed.

Have to agree...the devs need to seriously consider upgrading to a "real" forum package. This feels more like just posting comments to a blog and doesn't even have the most basic of features like a search engine.

Additionally, without profile tags it's almost impossible to tell who is and who isn't affiliated with the Artisteer team.

The Artisteer people have "Artisteer" as their name. It's that simple.

Anyone else is just a user. Some of us are power users and work with Artisteer on beta testing as well as escalating issues we see here in the forum.

There is a search function at the top of the forum and it works very well. You can also use Google to search the forums as well.

Marc, thank you for the reply. The point is for the longest time I thought YOU and several other people were part of the Artisteer team. That misconception could easily be fixed with a decent forum package.

If this forum has stickys, they should be using it. The announcement for 2.1 beta should be at the top, along with other relevant posts by Artisteer instead of getting lost down the topic list.

I guess most of us are just used to a real forum where you can log in, have a profile, send PM's, post attachments, and just facilitate MUCH better communication between people which is what a forum is for in the first place.

Many of us here are just getting into Artisteer, and are likely looking for help and/or would like to help others. This limited forum makes that somewhat...erm, limited.

I work with the tools presented to me.

News items are in the navigation to the left.

I get emails regularly from Artisteer users because put my email address out there in posts. info AT stuntmusic DOT com

It would be nice to have stickies, it would be nice to have a lot of things, but Artisteer chooses to have their forum like this. I've offered to rig a phpBB for them. They want to use this method for reaons that are theirs to discuss here if they so choose.

Lance and Dan and a couple of others have created a forum at artisteerhelp.com. They invited me to contribute there, but I don't have the time to split between two sites... my time is better served here with the new users... and their site is perfect for the power users.

It's my hope that they contribute shortcuts, code tweaks and other things of that nature back here, but we will see.

The sensable thing to do would be to add shortcuts here to artisteerhelp forum as they would get lost here unless someone knew what to search for.

Shortcuts and the like would be great to post here but unless the search wording is correct they would not pull due to the limitations of this forum. So as it stands having to monitor both forums is the only way not to miss post ;-)

Marc (Marec :-D) you have my appreciation because you do keep up with all the post here and I've learned a few things about wordpress from some of you post.

Yeah, that Marc is a good chap even if I do argue with him from time to time. :-)

It has been pretty exciting already at artisteerhelp.com with several tutorials already posted. One of our great forum mods, Webmist even has a full tutorial on how to port Artisteer templates over to CMS Made Simple, absolutely outstanding work there.

It would have been great to have more functions here, a good example of this is the tutorial I posted here about dynamic header text in Joomla templates. No responses and it was quickly buried. Six days later someone asks a related question which the tutorial solves.

But at this point, these details won't keep me from trying to provide resources for users. It just means I have a bit less time to spend here.
