Different page templates in same theme

My question is, how do I go about applying the different header/colors when making a page? I can get the drop down to come up with the page theme, but nothing changes. How do I go about getting the style file to reflect what I want it to be for those page templates?

I would greatly appreciate any help. I've searched the forums here and have tried what others have said, but I don't know the step by step on what exactly to change.
