I had some fun this weekend moving my artisteer templates to my Joomla! 1.6 alpha install. It went very smoothly all things considered. Only 2 minor code changes and it was plug-n-play from there.
However, it would be very nice if artisteer picked up the conventional joomla css tags from the new 1.6 release as the new core /html files are much cleaner and table-less now and it would make styling other components easier if artisteer were using standard joomla nomenclature on things.

My template doesn't work at all in 1.6

The same here. Templates are NOT working properly in Joomla 1.6.
After template install there is a message:
Fatal error: Call to a member function getMessageQueue() on a non-object in /var/accounts/CN20100009/www/templates/nlkanbeter/functions.php on line 11

LOL.. Using this software only allows you to create basic templates... if you want really unique, high function joomla templates you're still going to have to code quite a bit. And selling Artisteer templates isn't a bad thing... there is no shortage of people willing to pay for stuff they have no interest in doing themselves.
Personally, I never charge my clients for templates, but I do build in the cost of producing a custom template into any contract... I quickly design in Artisteer then customize to suit, which is what I actually bill for...

I bought Artisteer simply because it allowed me to make easy customisations and as far as I'm concerned it's a brilliant product. It's easy to see why the code-slinging purists don't rate Artisteer, it's turned the black art of building templates into something Joe Public can do. For the most part, an Artisteer template fits the bill perfectly.
Creating basic, customised templates is only half the story, it doesn't matter how pretty your site is, at the end of the day, content is king! Make it as glitzy as you like but if the content is naff, then your site is naff.

Replace: $mainframe->getMessageQueue();
With: JFactory::getApplication()->getMessageQueue();
At least it got me past that error.

The same here. So how to overcome this?

You don't. You wait for Artisteer to release a compatible version once 1.6 has gone stable.

Any workflow to get the art-vmenu running on J 1.6??

Thanks, Andrew, don't know where you get that...
If you read the message...
"Fatal error: Call to a member function getMessageQueue() on a non-object in /var/accounts/CN20100009/www/templates/nlkanbeter/functions.php on line 11"
... in my case it was on line 12, well, you edit "functions.php" on your artisteer template folder with some editor (like dreamweaver) and you just apply what Andrew said:
Replace: $mainframe->getMessageQueue();
With: JFactory::getApplication()->getMessageQueue();

Kan iemand het ook even in het nederlands uitleggen? Ik heb het probleem met een gedownloade template maar geen idee waar en hoe ik moet doen wat jullie schrijven.

Cannot access protected property ContentViewArticle::$params in C:\xampp\htdocs\rvpms\jupgrade\templates\rvpms1\functions.php on line 167
Replacing the above mentioned code did not work for me, after moving to J1.6, any other suggestions? I did double check I had the right directory, and mine was around line 17.

Judith,
Je moet even het bestandje functions.php opzoeken in de folder waar je je template heb staan ( je kunt ook even zoeken op functions.php en dan kijken waar je de naam van de betreffende template erbij ziet staan, dan openen met kladblok.
$messages = $mainframe->getMessageQueue();
vervangen voor :
$messages = JFactory::getApplication()->getMessageQueue();
$mainframe->getMessageQueue();
vervangen voor :
JFactory::getApplication()->getMessageQueue();

Joomla! 1.6 succesfully installed the template here. However when I tried to use the vertical menu and navigation it failed to load markup and images.
I reinstalled version Joomla! 1.5 which showed the template as it should be.

Ok, I have to ask the dumb question. Have not started working with Joomla 1.6 yet. Just downloaded the latest Mac version. Question is, do the templates that are created simply work with 1.6 as well as 1.5? I was looking for a save as 1.6 or something like that.
