This works like a charm in WP 3.0 and with the latest patch of Artisteer (Windows)

I was told by Support that Wordpress 3.0 is going to be supported by the next major update which is Artisteer 3. Though I wasn't told when that was going to be available

Nice of support to issue such a bold and definitive statement (albeit only to a single person directly rather than a post to the forum).
Of course, we all expect the next major release to have support for WP 3. The only real surprise would have been if they had stated that the next major release would not support 3.0.

But, without a release date, there is no real news here from Artisteer with regards to supporting WP 3.0

Thank you toemon and Didier for posting the info.

I did download your patch toemon and it worked great. My Artisteer generated templates are now able to work with the new menu wizard in WP3. (The only thing it didn't let me do is select between multiple menus using the dropdown list, as I guess your patch is hard coded to use the first menu that you create).

Now, if someone is able to add a patch to support the expanded widget sidebar functionality (i.e. Secondary Widget Area and Footer Widget Areas) as demonstrated in the "Twenty Ten" sample template) then I think a majority of the WP 3 CMS related enhancements will be covered without having to even wait for an update from Artisteer.

I really appreciate when software developers like toemon and Bud's Tech Shed are able to apply their php & coding knowledge and share with the rest of us the changes that need to be made to support the WP3 enhancements.

What is a bit disturbing however is that even with all the Wordpress beta versions and advanced information about the pending WP3 release that Artisteer still hasn't come out with an announcement regarding WP3 support in the time than it took some individual developers to provide what amounts to less than 50 lines of new code (see Bud's Tech Shed posting) which after adding to a single php file, provides support for one of the most powerful new WP3 capabilities.

Well, if nothing else, I guess the fact that Artisteer's code can be modified by third parties speaks well to the extensability of their approach to template generation even if it takes outsiders to implement desired updates.

Developing a program like Artisteer is not easy in defense of this company and the full version is barely a week out of the gate.

However I am a solely a WordPress guy -- WordPress is the best CMS and will be around long after Drupal and Joomla.

I have nothing to back that up. =P

Artisteer should get on the stick and get a patch out that covers the major menu issues as soon as possible AND announce immediately when they target a release date.

Toeman and Bud's Tech Shed are heros...thanks

I 'm a novice. Bought Artisteer and designed a very nice template. I have a Wordpress account. How do I get The Artisteer template into Wordpress so I can edit and eventually publish my blog?

Hi Fuzzywig,

'I have a Wordpress Account....' implies you have a wordpress.com account ?

Is so, then Artisteer is not going to be suitable.

Suggest you check out this article that explains the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com

Fuzzywig,

Once you've read the article that Dave suggested, if you'd like I can help you get set up with an actual Wordpress site of your own (and with your own domain name if you like) that you can upload your Wordpress themes to that you create with Artisteer. It will only take me a few minutes to get everything set up. So, let me know if you are interested...

What is the purpose of the files_org folder? That folder doesn't exist in the current version of artisteer? Should we add that folder or just skip it?

PS thanks for your work on this! :)

Why increase a service that does not exist, Artisteer is already a subscription for a principle of recurring theme. I agree to the practice site quickly by adding the code. One thing bothers me with Artisteer also prefix Art. in the CSS.

For the problem of updates coming from WP 3.0 in general is that security and not the operation, while it does not say that this is recurring to update Artisteer for menus ...

In life you must make choices, or to subscribe to wait on a platform of changing the theme CSS for customization or translation, but have a version compatible with WP 3.0

Artisteer display any post or date of change for WP 3, this is not correct commercially

Brett,

That folder is simply a backup of the original (org) functions.php file before the modifications by toeman. So, now it is not needed, but it's a good idea to have the original file in case you need to revert back to it.

Hope that helps.

Didier,
The prefix is there for a reason, it helps identify changes and modifications to the theme, and stops conflicts with plugin style elements which may have the same name, however we should be able to set this three character prefix ourself as part of our own branding.

WordPress Version 3 thoughts:
The main issue I have with the lack of an immediate fix for the menus is that I have free themes on my website with something like 1000 downloads between them, these are no longer current for WordPress 3.0, when should I tell My Customers an upgraded theme will be available, without knowing when we will have a fix?

Many here have control over the environment where thier themes are being used and it is not a problem to ignore the upgade prompt, but many others supply themes free or paid themes to other users and do not have control over the environment and upgrade.

When our customers visit our websites for an updated theme and see there is not one available or a notice as to when, we will likely loose customers, visitors and traffic to our websites, if we rely on advertising revenue to pay for hosting then this is affected.

Artisteer seem unaware of how thier lack of information will affect thier customers, users will now be searching for "WordPress version 3 Themes" and none of our themes can be classed as "WordPress version 3" so we will loose traffic and revenue.

Frustrated by Artisteer's lack of support for WP3.0, I searched for other CMS theme generators that did and found this interesting FREE application that claims to support 3.0.

The patch worked great! Now I have the new WordPress 3.0 features !

http://www.toemon.com/blog/2010/06/04/artisteer2_patch_for_wp3/

I went to the link above and used Google Chrome to translate it so I could find the download link.

There are very nice instructions for this. It is very easy to install.

I was told by Artisteer support that they will be releasing an update in the future to add support for the new Wordpress features.

Thanks Toemon!

Quote Artisteer Support:

Current WordPress designs created by Artisteer will work in Wordpress 3.0 but some of the new features such as the custom menu and footer sections are not available.

Artisteer will be releasing an update in the future that will allow for some of the new Wordpress 3.0 features. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a release date at this time.

Best Regards,

Kevin P
Artisteer Support

This is the official position from Artisteer, posted in the General Forum, so no hotfix for version 2.4, or mention of the vertical menus.

I will not use the product or post in the forums until this is released, no point in creating free Artisteer themes or tutorials that do not harness the new features of WordPress.

I will spend the time working with the default twenty ten theme, I have a few Ideas for addins, like an AddText module, which are theme independant and will work with Artisteer but will be presented in the twenty ten theme.

Also looking to see what alternatives are out there as Artsiteer seem to have a monopoly, usting down a program I wrote a few years ago for creating DotNetNuke containers, maybe create a little application for WordPress themes with colaboration.

This was early days I cannot find the finished application:

Wow, it is amazing how demanding some people are.

Wordpress 3.0 has been out like a week now and you expect Artisteer, a program that exports more than just Wordpress templates to work with all of the new features?

I guess the Artisteer response should be what?? "We are so sorry, we will have a new update out exactly tomorrow by 12 PM and it will have features x, b, c, etc."

Why would any company make such promises that cannot be kept? Software development is not always something that can be done by an exact time period. It isn't like flipping hamburgers where an exact time estimate can be determined.

Many of you may be familiar with the delays that Microsoft or other software have companies have had after announcing a release. This is typical in software, so why even bother to post release dates?

You know there are many Wordpress plugins that are not currently compatible with Wordpress 3.0. At least Artisteer works with Wordpress 3.0! Some of the plugins won't even install!

Sure, maybe Artisteer should release an update at the exact time Wordpress 3.0, is released, but they didn't so big deal...it isn't the end of the world. I'm not crying over this.

At least they are taking their time now with the releases rather than releasing an update fix and then disappointing with bugs or errors.

A lesson I have learned is that it does not pay to have the latest of everything unless you have expectations for the worse. Early software releases for CMS systems almost always have issues or incompatibilities. Everyone knows that the early adopter has to deal with such issues that someone who waits a little does not.
